National Hound and Tree Dog Association

Post by NHTDA »

For those that haven't heard, we've created a national non-profit to help promote and protect the great past time of chasing game with dogs. It's called the National Hound and Tree Dog association, and it's meant to support the men and women that hunt rabbits with beagles, big game with hounds, the coon hunter and the cur dog owner that likes to tree squirrels. The mission is very similar to a NWTF or Ducks Unlimited, but with a greater focus on the sport and the houndsmen's rights, than on the game itself. And our goal is to partner, not compete, with the existing hound and tree dog associations and clubs across the country. We want to help build and unite!

For more information, you can check us out at: http://nhtda.org/index.php/about

OR feel free to drop me a line. I would also be happy to field questions on this forum.

I'm glad to see organizations forming to protect and fight for our hunting rights.

As you look at the various sporting groups, they all seem to have at least one or two large, national non-profits, that represent them... National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Quality Deer Management Association, etc. etc. They're well organized, well funded and get a lot done for their respective sports and sportsmen and women. For us, it seemed like the hound and tree dog community was too fragmented. There are millions of hunters that love to chase and tree game, with dogs, but the organizations are more on the local or state level. There are large national registries and competition organizations, but not a national non-profit bringing them all together, to fight for our specific rights.

There are many states that have and are attempting to outlaw big game hunting with hounds, and once successful, they likely put the small game hunters in their cross hairs. In fact there are those in the state of Wisconsin that have been attempting to get a ban on ALL pursuit of game with a dog! And there are great, state and breed organizations that have managed to fight these initiatives, and some that haven't been so successful. But as opposed to each state, breed, or local club trying to fight those battles alone, wouldn't it be amazing if someone from a national organization could call a politician and say, " I represent 200 thousand houndsmen/women, of which 5000 reside in your state, and we would like you to vote this way."

We're really starting to grow our Affiliate Club program, which is how we will really grow into a truly National organization... by partnering with all the great existing organizations, already out there. Just this past week, we signed the Treeing Walker Breeders and Fanciers and the Wisconsin Sporting Dog Association.

All our partner clubs' members get our same member benefits, which include a growing membership discount program, and one lucky members will be drawn Labor Day weekend to win a Garmin Alpha combo!

Please spread the word!
