What set up do you or have you tried with tracking n training systems and what works best for you?

Had a trashbreaker for ever. Tried using a beep beep and an astro both. Finally got an alpha, best money I've spent as far as tracking/training is concerned.

Garman Alpha does everything I need and then some. I have never had a tracking system in my life until this time last year when I purchased this unit. I lost a few dogs in the last 40 years but never again. My dogs don't hit the ground until they collared up. There is no more guessing where they are or what they are doing. Greatest thing sense sliced bread.

I chose to stay with the astro/pro 70 as two separate units. I thought long and hard about the alpha but you can't use it during a field trial because of the "train" feature. I decided the last thing I wanted was to put down at a trial 400 miles from home and have mine tag along with a bunch of strange dogs that haven't been broke off deer. I don't think mine would go with them but if they did, it would be when I needed to be home the following day for work and was trying to find my dog. No thanks. Mine don't get cut loose without one just for my peace of mind if nothing else. I had a couple fellas look at me a little funny this fall when I was running one in a pen at a field trial but I figure it only takes getting hung up under one brush pile to not find them in time. I guess i'm a little anal but I would always rather be safe than sorry and starting over with another pup!

Almost 100% positive you can run the T5 collar that is in conjunction with the alpha at most if not all trails the t5 collar is tracking only.

Yep an alpha with a T5 (tracker only) is allowed. If I trialed I'd have the alpha with 1 T5 for the trials.

I used to have the Tracker Maxima beep collar setup with Supralite collars and that worked pretty well.
I used to have an Astro 220 Garmin gps tracking setup with DC 30 collars and that also worked pretty well.
When using the Tracker and Astro systems I used a TriTronics Trashbreaker along with them....also worked well.
When the Garmin Alpha came out I purchased one and that works better than anything else I've tried, it's a very powerful tool for tracking and training. I'm very happy with this system, it does everything I've needed and more.

Are the TT-15 collars allowed if you remove the prongs and install the cover plate that they come with?

Just leave the transmitter in the truck. Problem solved for field trailing.

Had trashbreaker and Astro for years!! I have the alpha now! Won't run without it! Always know where the dogs are be able to see how the game is running! Helps with offgame guessing! Best thing ever. Once they make the collars smaller it will be unbeatable!!!

I got one of the sportdog tek 1.0 and like it real well, it tells how far the dogs are from you and what direction they are in. They are simple to use, you can remove the e-module and just be a tracking unit. I rather to listen to the dogs than to be looking at the device all the time.

Had classic 70 in past...good unit.
Alpha now...not perfect, BUT the best piece of dog training equipment you can buy.....I don't see how it could improve much.
You hear people mention collar size...if my dogs and/or pups aren't tough enough to carry it around all day...well....they ain't tough enough to stay here....lol.
