Can be from any format , big nose and no extra mouth, must be AKC. I am looking for an outcross on my line ( Satsuma/Sangamon Ridge ) I would prefer this hound be ran in Multiple formats. IF they have produced Lemon pups when bred to lemon females will e a plus . Although I have a lot of respect for Branko and know they are several hard hitting Branko males out there , I have never seen Branko produce well on hounds heavy with Satsuma. Thanks in advance for your replies ..

No disrespect but that dog might be in somebody's back yard and never sees a trial I know there are a lot of good dogs out there that are in trials but never leave out the ones that are used just for hunting and they have no intentions on them being in trials and are AKC registered jmo.

IFC Awful Bawlin Viagra blood has been crossing well with Satsuma. Duane & Daniel Ross from Mississippi have some nice big males bred this way. Also, David Crockett in Miss. has a really nice big male, Plover River Jack by IFC Cedar Beck Oliver. I think he just needs a few points to finish.

imo plover river jack is a very good suggestion. i ran with him a bunch when he was a little over a year old and also a bunch with his sister plover river hotsy. both super nice dogs. bred to jack and i am very happy with the cross. just bred my double gator bred female to a son of jack today. nice stuff

If they got a big nose, they got extra mouth....guaranteed.

The meaning of extra mouth to me means, speaking when harking in to a pack, excitable barking off line, barking in the check area.
Cold trailing is not extra mouth to me if they can trail up and produce the rabbit but it should likewise also be demerited severely for the number of false starts claimed and not produced. I had a little bitch one time who so consistently cold trailed up her rabbit when no other hound could lift a scent that I could not fault her for it, I considered her a freak and enjoyed her ability. She drove my uncle crazy and while a somewhat embarrassment to me for her slow methodical working, she always produced her rabbit and I could not fault her.
The thing about cold trailing is, other hounds may be working silently closer to the rabbit for a jump and a hound speaking on a cold scent farther away may pull the hounds backward or away from the jump.This is why I think hound should work silently to the jump as not to interrupt the working independence of the other hounds while hunting until they're sure of themselves... jmho
Old Penny would chop mouth on a cold track but when she made the jump, she would squall out like someone had stomped on her and that mouth would continue while the race was on. She would revert back to a chop mouth in poor scenting areas and back to the squall when the scent improved and the track was running again. She was a perfect little hound for a boy on the farm rabbits or in poor conditions.

Show me a dog that can run on snow when it is 0-10 below which they can, but then I want to see it run when it is 50-60 out. Big nose dogs all have some extra pop. Which it don't bother me as long as they are not popping all over.

The hounds I own have competed and done well in those conditions. They have big noses, but the two edged sword is that a cottontail can go to ground or refuge where a Hare cannot. SO on some cottontails, that early mouth, with a few pops may lead to you questioning the dog, BUT I don't have issues with it. When a hound can drift a track to a jump and open while doing it I enjoy that. It happens regularly when I run.

Happened today with one of the FC's I own. He drifted three rabbits with a few pops...then it is jumped.

I am here to say mine WILL OPEN early. They can also excel in dry and hot conditions...BUT what Ron refers to is the case if we are really being honest and critical I have yet to see huge nose with no extra barks...still looking.

Apologies for interjecting on this post. The dogs I run DO NOT have the hard hit you are referring to in many cases.

I like FCGD Dago Valley Bullets pedigree. I have heard some stellar reports on his skills.

Jim what is your definition of big nose ? What ground condition warrants this label on a hound if it is moving a rabbit ? Any comments or theories welcome curious to learn .
