akc field trial

Post by bear128 »

My question is in an AKC field trial what happens or should happen if the entire winners pack takes off on a deer ? I've heard that you have to have a winner but also heard that if they get on deer they are disqualified

You can't pick a dog up in the AKC for running a deer.

your right but they can be picked up for disruption to the pack which is a judgement call. If you can find the starter of the deer i'd call that a major disruption.

I don't know to me this is the biggest fault in a rabbit dog . A dog that runs off game messes up the entire hunt . I don't understand how you can award a dog for running a deer to me this is a major flaw in the system . just my thoughts

yea I agree with that rolling track . I understand beagles track scent of game but the trial is for running rabbit so I dont understand how dogs that run off game could place over dogs that didnt . The trial is not to see who runs the best deer or cat but the best rabbit the right way .

your apinion doesn't come into play as far as the AKC is concerned
you judge by the book If you get rid of the entire winners pack you
WILL hear from them been there with them on number of hounds
placing in LPH many years ago

What's it matter who starts it if they all take it? If they all pound a deer across the pen, I'd say that isn't a disruption at all, but they better be doing a nice job on it!!
