I have always been told it takes approximately 61 to 63 days for a female to whelp pups. Is three days overdue uncommon? Thanks for all replies.

I had one female that always whelped at 65 days and another at 67 days.
I hope this helps.

Not uncommon for a due date to go by, has a lot to do when the eggs were fertilized. She may not have released early and sperm is viable for 72 hours so 66 or 67 days on some bitches is normal

A good rule of thumb is 5 days either way. So anywhere between 58 and 68 days. Any more than 68 and I would get concerned.

Had one breed three times and always went 70 days from first breeding. Start taking temp. 14 days prior to due date, twice a day. Normal temp is 101 to 102.5. When temp drops to 99 or lower pups will be born within 24 hrs. if no problem arises. This comes from 3 vets and has worked for me for over 30 years. Hopes this helps.
