Big Running cottontails.

I don't normally keep track of total distance traveled by the hounds during a cottontail run , but this past Saturday evening had just cleared my Garmin when the hounds made a jump. This cottontail twisted out a few small circles at first , then procceded down a long hedge row out into an adjacent swamp. As I stood at the jump site, the hounds did not make a definitive turn until they were close to 500 yds out. Not unheard of , but not the norm for me. This rabbit continued to circle through the thickets and into the swamp for the next 2 + hrs. When I downed the first hound at 9:30 pm I checked my Info on Garmin. 5.62 miles. Her bracemate got by me for another circle. caught a glimpse of the rabbit with the full moon , set myself up and tackled the second hound off the line. Her final tally was 6.35 miles. Have others experienced similiar totals on cottontail , or is my Garmin telling me tales ? At the pace they were going and the distance traveled , I was very surprised that rabbit didn't get caught.

Bet it was a buck out looking far and wide for females to breed and when dogs got after him he ran back to his own swampy territory.

Good dogs you have there. Congratulations!!!

Joe , Been worried sick about you. Thought perhaps u choked on a diaphram call or got turkey fever permanently . The Blue Ridge rabbits have been at peace during your absence.
