i don't want a dog with a big nose and no foot thet would blow a hole in the ground. I think I would take foot as long as they have brains

A dog can only run the rabbit as fast as its nose will allow or I kinda feel like that's the way it should be. Some dogs might prove me wrong lol.

I agree with Jude.
Nose is very important. If a beagle can't smell a rabbit. It doesn't really matter what kind of foot it has. A beagle should run a rabbit track as fast as their nose let's them. On a good scenting day, heads up running. On a bad scenting day, gear down to keep the track going. Just my opinion.

Jude is spot on! I'd take nose over foot--if they can't smell it they can't run it at any speed.

Nose and foot go together. Jude hit it. Dog can only run as fast as his nose. Some dogs can pick up tough scent when others cant....thats the dog i like. Hunt, speed, and can do it in all conitions...hot, cold, or 2 feet of snow.

I believe nose is important but I also believe how they use their nose is MORE important. Have seen dogs with less nose run more efficient then hounds with bigger nose, many times. I've given up on speed, will take style over speed any day.

I will take a dog that can jump and run a rabbit the full circle regardless of what their nose or speed and NOT make me freeze to death waiting on it or spending time after they have over run the turns or hem hawing in a loss. Call it whatever one wants but I call them rabbit dogs.
