Anyone have a bad dog?

Post by Hubbard84 »

The majority of the adult hounds for sale have been described as having great hunt, excellent nose, good speed, check work, and mouth.

If you have the perfect dog you would not be selling it. I realize it's not a great sales tactic to describe them as being a complete crap eater. Thought it would be interesting if guys would describe the worst dogs they have owned. What did they do to make them a terrible running dog. I don't care to hear what you did with them. This could be funny if we are honest. Or just the traits that you hate to see and have had dogs that possessed these traits such as having 0 hunt, tight mouth, loose mouth, running rough, terrible in the kennel...and their GENERAL breeding. I realize not everyone likes the same types of dogs. Lets hear it.

I won't slander anyone's hounds....but I have had culls in many "Lines"...if you are looking for upper end dogs...culls sure do happen. Lets just be realistic.

I have sold a few that did not meet my criteria....but the culls...well...they are culls..

Lines I have seen culls in...Ranger Dan, Shaker, Dingus, Indian Hills, Muskie Lake, Ninja, Lumberjack, Rob's Diamond 2, Patch, Grade....Striker, White River, Heat um Up..these are ones I have seen or dealt with first hand sure there are others. But to be "Generic" this covers a few. It sometimes takes a long hard path to find what you like, THEN you still get culls....to be perfectly honest. That is the way I call it...

From mouthy to crapping in the dog box....a cull is a cull...from no hunt to kennel shy...a cull is a cull....from junky to back tracking...a cull is a cull.

From ALL lines there are culls....unfortunate some of the them trade hands..why I deal with a VERY SMALL group of guys on hounds with the same expectations as myself...not perfect dogs...BUT honest and realistic people.

Maybe some of us have family problems or something and at one point have to sell some of the best dogs we've ever owned. I'd say try it and if you dont like it dont buy it! All dogs on here aint crap dogs by any means!

im gonna be honest and say i have a kennel full of them. I have a fault for every one of them. I have yet to see a dog that i cant find a problem with. it all goes to what you can deal with. I know people who have culled better dogs than some have owned. there is alot of variables .one guys opinion of a dog is differnt than anothers. i have seen dogs call their dogs a nine on speed when i would call them a seven at most. dog dealings are a buyer beware event .. if you buy or breed to a dog without doing your homework its on your shoulders. I also perfer to start with pups and raise them up as i want them. if they have a fault i cant deal with (backtracking , no hunt shy or mean) i take care of it. if they have a fault that dosent suite me( to slow/ fast, messy in kennel, opens early, ect) but is ok with the next guy so be it.

We sell very few running dogs and we have just started selling started dogs as a result of building a running pen and making it easier to mess with young dogs....I hate selling a dog ....I don't like the question after question from the same people trying to see if they can catch u in a lie.....I find it ridiculous that someone would lie over a dogs ability....it's gonna come out as soon as the buyer gets the dog home and bad news travels faster than good news....got a young dog for sale right now on this site....people been calling and texting asking over and over again asking the same questions....I tell them all the same thing the dog is too small for my liking but he's still a fine dog....he no world beater right now but what dog is at less than two years old....if u guys are afraid to buy a dog off the internet it's because u have been burned before.....stop buying dogs off someone's word....go run with the dog so u have nothing to bitch about when u get it home....what dumbass can't figure that out

I bought a dog names AJ"S CedarSwomp Milz dog has won 5 hunts a state hunt and to me is a great dog for my liking and has produced an AKC field champion. The breeder of this dog thinks he is the worst dog to ever come out of his kennel. One mans cull may be what someone likes. Go watch the dog before you buy is my suggestion. I could be wrong but I believe this is the only dog out of this guys kennel to ever finish.

We'll all mine that are for sale have a fult! That's why there for sale!and the fault is listed rt in the ad, that way if they can't deal with that fault there's no reason to call and waste both of are time . But nvr the less ever dog I sell can be taken for a 30 day trial.. At buyer cost.. So nothing to hide here .. :D. Lol one mans stake is another mans hamburger ! Lol

Also, ever notice that they're all medium or upper medium speed? I don't know why there's so many formats!

This is gonna sound pretty general, but the biggest fault I can't get away from is having consistency in a dog. Two out of my four are pretty decentand level-headed most of the time. Then I have the other two that can look like ROCK STARS one day,and hammered S&@T, the next! One of them,I had pushed too hard at a young age, my fault. The other has not been trialed at all. He just is what he is.(he's also at a friends now, that can solo him!) he may keep him if he likes.
We all know they're going to have good days and bad days. But I'm not tolerating such drastic changes these days.

Heck I'll go. I have a female I bought. Actually bought her sister too. Only reason I brought them home without running them was the condition they and the kennel they were in was atrocious. Anyway it seems the one will bark from them time you load her up to the time you drop her to the time you put her back in the box. I don't know if she has that "big" of a nose or she just likes to bark. Just can't moved her because I just fell in love with her. Got her fixed so she can't have pups. The other dogs pay her zero attention when she opens. I won't hunt her with other guys. I will tell you though, there have been days when my other dogs couldn't find a rabbit to save their life and she has jumped more than her share on those days. She is a throw away in everyone's eyes. But she puts a smile on my face in the kennel and out.

In many cases what one man can't tolerate another can. I had a male years ago that was a son of FC Maravics Ninja and Briar Patch Calico Sorceress (Callie). He was very well built and stood 16 1/2" at the shoulder. He was tight with his mouth and would open sparingly on the line with a running hare. He opened very little in deep dry powder snow when the temps were below 20° F. Running with other dogs he barely opened at all. Only if he had the track all to himself. I sold him at 20 mos. old to an older man who said he was the best dog he ever owned and still says it to this day. He soloed that dog his entire life. I never saw him go again after I sold him. This guy came back and bought 2 more at different times that didn't suit me either and he was content with both those as well. I learned long ago that honestly telling people what the dog is always works out the best for everyone in the end. Including the dog. If I have a dog for sale and someone asks about it the first question I always ask them is what do they want in a dog? If their description is not in line with what the dog is I tell them up front they won't be happy with what I have and to keep looking. Again, both man and dog are better off in the end.
