Milk Replacement.

Post by Casey Harner »

Got a pregnant female, got 20 days left and she is huge. Thinking she might have 10 or more. I just want to be ready if I have to bottle feed some.

Thanks guys.

You can get Ebselac at Wal Mart or at the Farmer's Co-Op that is made for pupies and kittens.Don't feed regular cow's milk as the pups digestive system can't handle it at a young age and it will give them stomach upsets and severe diarehea.

I use Goat Milk Replacer.
2 scoops in the mothers feed or use for bottle babies as well.

You can get a multi species replacer from Tractor Supply. It is a powder and i put on females food 10 days prior to whelping. I then use it again on puppies food when they begin to wean. I also give pet tabs with calcium to mother prior to pups aid help with possible calcium deficientcy. I have been doing this with all my litters and had great success with it. The replacer is a powder and just place on food , it smells sweet and taste like pancake mix mother and pups like the taste.
5lb bag cost approx $15
Good luck , Tom

Goat milk in a small (human) baby bottle . Goat milk is expensive at the store so if you know anyone that raises goats you could probably buy it from them . Amish is where we get it around here

Ultra 21 is what Tom is probably referring to. I've used it on the last several litters and it is awesome. I start feeding it to the puppies at 3-4 weeks & it helps relieve the strain of big litters. It also helps all the pups get enough nutrition to grow at the same pace. There is a light blue bag and it works too, but I've found the Ultra 21 in the black bag is better. Hope this helps & good luck.

I have used Ultra 21 at Tractor supply seems like it works good also use it on the Mother about a week before the pups are born will help her produce more milk, good luck with the female and the pups.

How many were in her litter and her mother's litter? If her mother was a good milker she should be ok.
The heat will be your biggest issue imho. The best pups I raised were on the ground in the summer heat, in the cool dirt cradled between the roots on the north-east side of an old hard maple tree. If you use the off-ground kennel, I screw a coffee can in the corner and sit frozen 2 litter bottles in it, changing as needed.
