Update on DNR

This is a good place to inform fellow hunters about bills and other legislation that may jeopardize our rights to hunt and free cast our hounds.

Update on DNR

Post by B.Trull »

Folks:
had a conversation with one senator who sits on the DNR board yesterday. He seems pretty positive about keeping open the existing running areas or opening some new ones. He seemed pretty upbeat and is sending me a copy of the minutes of the meeting and thinks the last thursday meeting is a step in the right direction. Keep calling

all the minutes of the interim summer study committee can be viewed on the legislator page on the http://www.indianabeaglersalliance.org/indiana/ website. simply click on the contact your legislators button toward the bottom left. then click on the last legislator listing, then at the top left of that screen click on study committees. that will bring up an aphabetical listing for all committees go to N and click on the only listing.... natural resource committee. from there you can find the agenda, meetings and minutes. it will a few days or so before thursdays meeting is on, but you can find the minutes for the previous meetings this summer.

you will see an error by the recorder for the meeting that was held at clifty falls. In the minutes she reports that John Davis provided the committee with letters from the Corps of Engineers indicating that field trialing and dog training are not compatible with usage of federal funded or leased ground. That error I pointed out very quickly and its being corrected for the minutes of last thursday meeting.

I cant say im as optimistic as the senator is..... I like most beaglers, hunters, and other sportsmen and women feel that there should be no changes what so ever. that we, in fact, have enough restrictions now. And research backs us up. Unfortunately the Fish and Wildlife Division of IDNR is stubornly sticking to their desire to close and restrict our opportunities. The proposal as it stands now has F&W closing all dog training on state land from april 15 thru August 15 with the exception of four designated dog training areas that would be left open during that period. F&W will also make designated dog training areas on all the 9 reservoir properties, and if they are not one of the four they would be closed mid april to mid august also.

I have been fighting for no changes at all, but have agreed that we would be able to function with ten (10 ) designated dog training areas geographically spread out across the state. Glen Lange of F&W is fighting leaving ten areas open tooth and nail. And the Alliance has been fighting hard to get them. Both Mr. Goss, and Mr. Davis have promised there will be more than the orginal four, but have not yet committed to 10. Previously Mr. Goss had agreed on the ten areas, but since then has backed off that committment. We will know by the 28th of this month what their decision is. Now.... if we dont get those ten areas, we will need to fill the government center with sportsmen against the proposed changes when the proposal is heard by the Natural Resouce Commission. We will have plenty of time to organize as we will know in advance when that hearing is....... it will be of upmost importance that all sportsmen be willing to sacrafice part of that day to attend. Attendance at the NRC hearing will make or break our fight. NOW, lets hope that IDNR will finally see the sportsmens side of this issue on the 28th and no further action on our part will be needed. but just in case, please contact all your sporting friends and start getting them prepared to attend the NRC meeting...
