public hunting

This is a good place to inform fellow hunters about bills and other legislation that may jeopardize our rights to hunt and free cast our hounds.

public hunting

Post by fat head »

i recently moved to northern ky and recently started rabbit hunting with dogs. and since i dont know hardly anybody. i dont have many places to hunt so i started checking in to pubic hunting and was very suprised to find out that the rabbit hunting seasons in these areas in nky stop on dec. 31 and season state wide ends jan.31 i dont know much about hunting on public land but i waited till late season because i do not want my dogs in the woods with deer hunters out there that could take shots at my dogs because they think it messed up there deer hunting and if you wait till gun season is over you have very little time to hunt what is there reason for ending it early on public land if anything rabbit season should start latter and run longer so people could deer hunt and rabbit hunt safely

hunting public land

flat head, according to the kentucky 2002-2003 hunting regulations rabbit season closes feb 10 in 29 counties and on jan 31 in all others. its starts 11 in the 29 counties and on nov 1 in all the others with it closed for two days for some reason nov. 9 and 10.

if kentucky is like indiana you are getting several problems that make public hunting difficult. one) there are so many dnr employees that are either non-hunters or anti-hunters. two) many of the property managers are now looking at the state land as "their land". they manage it and get the mistaken idea it belongs to them. indiana is getting a real bad case of negative dog attitude among its property managers. we have fought for and gained an early small game season on our state ground, but its not something the low lives... eh, excuse me. the lower level managers like. it was fought for by groups like the indiana sportsmans roundtable and gotten thru the executive branch of dnr. the beagler and the rabit hunter must begin to speak out and challange the things that all dnr departments are doing... we can make a differance. the old saying that anyone who thinks one person cant make a differance has never slept with a misquito. there was a time when public ground such as state forests and reservoir areas had signs that read...PUBLIC HUNTING AREA... now they say WILDLIFE AREA and the property managers , biologists, and fish and game specialists are real quick to correct you if you refer to them as public hunting areas. there is an ill wind brewing in the ranks of natural resources. i think it wouldnt be a real hard sell getting longe seasons on your ky. state land. its going to take someone or some group interested in expending the energy and time needed to see it thru. most beaglers and rabbit hunters just want to hunt and run the dogs unfortunately and so not much gets done. hopefully some are beginning to see that the light at the end of the tunnel right now is the dang train.
