The following amendment to the Georgia Constitution will appear on the ballot when we go vote in November
"SHALL THE CONSTITUTION OF GEORGIA BE AMENDED SO AS TO PROVIED THAT THE TRADITION OF FISHING AND HUNTING AND THE TAKING OF FISH AND WILDLIFE SHALL BE PRESERVED FOR THE PROPLE AND SHALL BE MANAGED BY LAW AND REGULATION FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD."
Look at page 24 of the 2006-2007 Hunting Regulations, page 99 and page 204 of th September issue of Georgia Outdoor News (GON) for more information.
This is a serious issue that could result in our losing the right to hunt or fish if this amendment is not passed. What do you think the Anti's will think if we don't pass this amendment?
If you are not registered to vote, PLEASE DO SO - YOU HAVE TILL OCTOBER 10th to register.
An organization called Georgians for Outdoor Traditions (GOT) has been formed to support passage of this amendment. Geogia Outdoor News is also workign to support passage.
We owe it to our future generations to insure this amandment is passed by an overwhelming percentage of votes.

Thanks for the heads up (both here and in the email). If we do not make our voices heard, we will be overlooked! Politicians often hear only the side that seems to have the most votes attached. It is a shame when a vocal MINORITY can affect decisions that effect EVERYONE! I remember hearing a DNR biologist (a few years back) say that when the majority of voters no longer favor hunting (fishing, etc.), non-hunting politicians will cease to care about the issue. I did not give it much thought at the time but Florida has already proven him RIGHT! KEEP US POSTED AND REMINDED!

Thanks for getting this on the board Ross. I made up copies of the page you spoke of in the 2006-2007 GA Hunting Regulations and put them in my co-workers mail slots at work. Told Bill Sorrow about it tonight over phone. Let's all pitch in and do a little something men/women. Let's get ur done! This should be posted at all deer camps, marinas, bait shops, field trials, etc. and should especially be part of our conversations.

Wayne,, I showed this to a bunch of guys at the shop today and most of em said,, Why We Need That??? Thats Our Right,,, and I said,,, Ya Right,,, WAKE UP DUMMIES,,, the hand writens on the wall!!!! Deer huntin is still king here in Georgia and lots of money goes out all over the state for it!!! I also don't think Allstate and the other insurance companies'll stand still for a huntin ban,, (12 deer a year now)!!!! Hunting license sales are way off from the early 80's though so this'll bare a WATCHIN for sure!!!!

PS We are losing some WMA's through out the State (Oakey Woods and Ocmulgee) and Thats Got Me Worried for SURE!!!!

This year is suppose to be the last year for those two I mentioned,, SUBDIVISION is what I've been told by friends who live down there in Macon!!! Where I hunt in the Paulding Forrest is scheduled to become the New North Atlanta Air Port!!! I've been hearing its gonna have 8500ft strips but only small planes (Ya RIGHT)!!!!! GON talked a lot about this WMA loss a few months ago,, its not good!!! I use to bow hunt Sheffield WMA alot back in the 80's and it was nothing to see 6 or 7 pages of hunter sign in as the season went on.. Last year we took our hounds up there after the Dec deer close date and found a page and a half of deer hunters had signed in during the season!!! I'm hearing Pine Log is on the ropes and Allatoona is cut in half for the National Cemetary!!! If my memory is right GON said 1/3 of our acerage is up for grabs???? AS our numbers fall (Hunters) the use of alot of this WMA land is in question!!!! Thats OUR REAL PROBLEM HERE!!!!! And you can take that to the bank!!!!

The same here in North Georgia. The Coosawattee WMA is being leased out to private memberships. It consisted of 10,000 acres and 4,000 acres has already been leased this year and the state plans to let the rest of it go next year. So that will be the end of the Coosawatte WMA. It has primarily been a small game hunters WMA and since it is not for deer hunting they are letting it go. I have lost 3 places to hunt this year and next year the WMA will be gone. I will have to get out of beagling altogether probably. I will not have any place close to home to hunt. I have rabbit hunted since I was a kid. My dad carried me before I could get through a briar patch by myself. It is just not a hobby or a sport but a passion and a way of life.
We need to do something about the loss of our public hunting lands. I do not know what to do but I would back anyone trying and help anyway I could.
Mr. Chuck Terry ( Which I met a few months back that is extremely nice and a pleasure to talk to) and Mr. Ross Martinez, I as a sportsman appreciate the info on the hunting rights bill that was on the ballot yesterday, but if the state keeps doing away with the public lands to hunt and all that is left is high priced lease land for deer hunters, it does not much matter. I am not against deer hunting or deer hunters but my tax dollars, hunting license, and the money I spend on hunting equipment are just as good as theirs. And I bet as hound hunters we spend way more money on dogs, feed, supplies, veternarian bills, medicines shells, etc, etc, etc than any big game hunter ever thought of.
Sorry gentlemen but I had to vent on this one. It just bothers me so much that big game hunters are catered to and small game hunters are not even considered.
