Come one come all, let’s have a ball.
Bring your hound to South Ky.’s trial.

South Ky. is honored to be a member of the Mid-West,
And in my opinion this organization is far the best.

Unlike others we don’t claim to have the best running ground
But they’re still plenty of rabbits to be found

We do claim to put on a good, honest trial
And that I’ll guarantee to one and all.

Weather for our trial has been predicted to be better than just OK
So bring you hounds if you have enough nerve to play.

Not sure if the bunnies will squat, double back or make a big run,
However, this shouldn’t matter if you have a good hound that can really get it done.

We have chosen judges that know a hound
Hopefully at the end of the day the best dog will still be on the ground.

Honest judges will always do their best
But those judges are not there to please you, me or the rest

Good judges are there to give the best hound the win
If that is not your hound, still try to act like men.

Remember win or lose this is about having fun
So bring your hounds and let them run

As field trial chairman I’ll do my best to ensure that you and your hound are treated right,
As long as you don’t bitch and fight.

It’s my job and I’ll do everything in my power to help you out.
But that doesn’t mean you have the right to scream and shout.

Hopefully, you won’t have a reason to get mad or to complain.
But if you do, come see me and I’ll do my best to ease your pain.

If I can’t solve your problems I’ll at least offer you some great food and a clean kitchen
So you will have place to sit and eat while you do your bitchen.

You handlers that have been to other trials, will probably recognize me,
I’m six feet, 215 pounds, with a fuzzy go-tee.

You handlers that don’t have a problem, maybe just want to talk, that would be nice,
Just ask for me by name, Earl W. Rice.

Earl,
I had prior plans for the sunday bitch class
but after that poem I feel like kicking some AZZ!

I have been sitting here drinking and thinking about running some hounds
and you have talked me into coming to your grounds.

I have two hounds that are 13 and 15 inches tall
and all I have done is prepair them for fall.

I know that they are not the worlds best
but on any given day they can run with the rest.

All I can hope for is a place or a win
but if they dont I still have a big grin.

Jimbo says "Earl you are a nut"
I hope to see him there if he has the guts.

If for some reason that he kicks my AZZ
I just pour him some shine in a dirtry glass.

And if for some reason my hounds come in last
it dont matter because I am sure it will be a blast.

It is time to start the fun
so I say its time to run.

I am not a poet like the great Earl Rice
But my feet shoe it they are Longfellows

Start the KY Mid-West SPO schedule out with South & Mr. Rice
And finish it with Central KY and Pete Young-Mr. Nice

South will have plenty of rabbits
At Berea for your habit

Now for the big surprise
Coach Cal brought recruiting back
We have a new place that is on the fast track

The place to be is Handy's Bend
Oh, look out Indiania, there will be a new trend

1400 acres of corn, native grass & food plots
The rabbits are by the lots

Even comes with a clubhouse
And you might see a bird or two and a grouse

The Bluegrass state now recruits the cream of the crop
This will put KY SPO at the top

For those big males that play the part
We've bought back Scott Music, not for the faint at heart

1400 hundred acres no field trial has ever seen
Your hound had better be keen

I saw 50 rabbits in a half mile stretch
More than I think your hound can catch

Twenty Mid-West Clubs to run your hound
All available to watch them pound

See you next weekend guys.

Never realized we had so many top notch poets in the Mid-West. :D

On a serious note, talk to a guy this morning that said he had been running at the MILLER-WELCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA and ensured me that we had plenty of rabbits. Said cover was little think but shouldn't have any trouble finding lots of rabbits.

Weather may not be as good as was predited last week. I thik now weather man is saying in middle to high 80's with chance of rain. Not as good as high 70's but still better than middle 90's.

Hope to see everyone there,
Earl Rice (Mid-West Poet)

Stony,
When I retire from judging I'll make sure you get that hat that you have always admirred. I'll even sign it. Hell with me being a famous poet it may be worth something now.

South Ky; they put on one top notch trial.
The members always greet you with a hand shake & a smile.

Earl & Jamie Rice; great guys in mine & most people's books.
Not the most handsome, but beagling's not about looks.

Looks like it's calling for rain; last time I took a glance.
So you guys with hot nosed dogs might still have a chance.

We'll try our luck with our big female hound.
Hopefully we'll still be there until the last round.

If we lose, we lose and if we win, we win.
Even if we don't win the Blue, we'll leave with a fake grin.

Can't wait until this weekend ; first trial of the fall.
Don't be afraid to enter; you can't win them all.

Look forward to seeing fellow beaglers, old and new.
Let's try to have some fun & best of luck to you.

I had to try a poem, but I think I fell flat.
I'm no Earl Rice; Now I'm sure of that.
