Tommy G, you can not blame Obama on socialism. This nation has been going towards socialism every since the 1930's. There is not one aspect of the United states that is not controlled or has an oversight by the government.
In our society we have the right to open a business under a free market system (capitalism) but that business has rules and regulations that is set forth by the government (socialism).
Having government oversight of our businesses is not a bad thing; having government control is.

One thing that I would like to ask you Tommy G is what do you think about unions?

It is undenyable that he (OBAMA) has nationlized GM, told corporations what they can and cannot pay their top executives, forced banks that didnt want TARP money to take it so they would be under government control and the list could go on. Obama IS to blame for shoving socialism down our throats as fast as it is being done...creeping socialism I agree has been here for a long time. Doesnt make it any easier to swallow now because of that however.

As far as GM is concerned, they took our tax dollar for their mistakes. A private company took my tax dollar and yes if their CEO is not able to make a turn around then yes put a cap on his pay and let the government help out until they can get someone in there that can make a turn around.
I don't hear anyone complaining about the government putting a minimum on pay "federal wage scale" when it comes to the common man, but when you do the same thing to top CEO's than god forbid. If GM did not want federal help which comes with federal regulations then they should not have asked.

I believe you boys have confused socialism, regulations and oversight by putting them in the same bucket. socialism is when producers/buisnesses/services etc. have both political power and the means to produce and distribute products/goods etc.

As much as I think president Bush is getting a bad rap for all the good he did in keeping America safe, I also believe he is not getting nearly enough blame for setting us on the road to socialism. He is the one that got the whole TARP mess started, he bailed AIG out the first time along with several other failed banks. It all got started on his watch with him pushing it as far as he could. President Obama just picked up where the republicans left off on that issue.

America became the great country it is because of freedom. That means people have the freedom to succeed, AND the freedom to fail. If a business is poorly run IT SHOULD FAIL. If another business comes along and does the same thing better, cheaper and faster, IT SHOULD BE REWARDED. Heavy taxes and over regulation punish businesses that are successful more so than ones that are not.

America has forgotten this lately, while China, Ireland, Taiwan and other countries have just discovered it. The best business will in the future will start up or move to these countries no matter what we do here, and jobs will follow.

When the government lends funds expecting it to be returned and puts regulations and guidelines on that return without taking shares, partial ownerships, voting rights, board seats etc. from that entity that is a loan. When the government does start taking those afore said items that is socialism.
