Obama's top 10 accomplishments -- according to Obama

Comment Share Tweet Stumble Email

President Obama jumped on the year-in-review bandwagon with a video, released Saturday, that lists his administration's top accomplishments of 2015.

Take a look at what the president believes "should make every American optimistic about 2016":
10. The Economy

Businesses, according to the president, have "added 13.7 million new jobs over a 69-month streak of job growth." Mr. Obama also cited the latest unemployment rate figures -- in October, it fell to 5 percent and has remained at that level since -- as proof of a strong economy.
9. "More Americans getting health insurance coverage"

Despite numerous Republican threats and challenges to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the president's landmark health bill survived 2015.
"
Just this month, the White House extended the deadline to sign up for health insurance under the ACA by two days because of "unprecedented demand."
8. "America's global leadership on climate change"

For the past year, the president has heavily championed a climate change agenda. And just last week, the world came together at the Paris COP21 climate talks to reach a historic deal with ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

7. U.S.-Cuba relations

In August, the U.S. reopened its embassy in Cuba, the first symbolic step to normalizing relations between the two countries and the first time the American flag has flown in Havana in 54 years.

6. Iran nuclear deal

In July, six world powers, including the United States, struck a landmark nuclear deal with Iran. And in the months after, despite staunch Republican objection, the deal survived a vote in Congress.

"In fact," he added, "Iran has already dismantled thousands of centrifuges that enrich uranium."
5. "Standing strong against terrorism"

Over the past week, the president has urged Americans to stay united in the face of terror threats, after the recent shooting in San Bernardino left the nation wary of future strikes.

4. The Trans-Pacific Partnership

In October, Mr. Obama's legacy-defining trade deal involving 12 Pacific Rim countries was sealed, with provisions to cut trade barriers, protect labor and environmental interests and ensure intellectual property rights. In his Saturday video, the president called the Trans-Pacific Partnership the "strongest, most pro-worker, pro-environment trade agreement in our history."
3. Bipartisan budget and education deals

In an era where partisan bickering in Washington has reached a fever pitch, the president chose to highlight two bipartisan legislative achievements. He pointed to a sweeping education overhaul of No Child Left Behind and a budget deal that avoided the threat of a government shutdown, calling them "a pair of Christmas miracles in Washington."
2. The legalization of same-sex marriage

"Love won," the president said, referring to the Supreme Court's landmark 5-4 decision that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. "No matter who you are, here in America, you're free to marry the person you love because the freedom to marry is now the law in all 50 states."
1. "The American people"

"All of this progress is because of you -- because of workers rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done and entrepreneurs starting new businesses," Mr. Obama said Saturday. "Because of teachers and health workers and parents -- all of us taking care of each other. Because of our incredible men and women in uniform, serving to protect us all. Because, when we're united as Americans, there's nothing that we cannot do."

Surely we should all feel better with less bickering as we eagerly look at the rosy outlook for 2016.

UH OH!
At a recent White House science fair celebrating inventors, a Girl Scout who helped design a Lego-powered page-turning device asked President Obama what he had ever thought up or prototyped. Stumbling for an answer, he replied: “I came up with things like, you know, health care.”

Ah, yes. “Health care.” Remember when the president’s signature ObamaCare health insurance exchanges were going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, the remote control, jogger strollers, Siri, the Keurig coffee maker, driverless cars and Legos put together?

The miraculous, efficient, cost-saving, innovative 21st-century government-run “marketplaces” were supposed to put the “affordable” in President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Know-it-all bureaucrats were going to show private companies how to set up better websites, implement better marketing and outreach, provide superior customer service and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.

You will be shocked, I’m sure, to learn that ObamaCare exchanges across the country are instead bleeding money, seeking taxpayer bailouts and turning everything they touch to dust.

“Almost half of ObamaCare exchanges face financial struggles in the future,” The Washington Post reported last week. The news comes despite $5 billion in federal taxpayer subsidies for IT vendors, call centers and all the infrastructure and manpower needed to prop up the showcase government health insurance entities.

Initially, the feds ran 34 state exchanges; 16 states and the District of Columbia set up their own.

While private health insurance exchanges have operated smoothly and satisfied customers for decades, the ObamaCare models are on life support.

Oregon’s exchange is six feet under — shuttered last year after government overseers squandered $300 million on their failed website and shady consultants who allegedly set up a phony website to trick the feds.

In the People’s Republic of Hawaii, which has been a “trailblazer” in socialized medicine for nearly four decades, the profligate state-run exchange demanded a nearly $30 million cash infusion to remain financially viable after securing $205 million for startup costs.

The Hawaii Health Connector accidentally disconnected hundreds of poor patients’ accounts and squandered an estimated 8,000 hours on technological glitches and failures. Enrollment projections were severely overinflated like a reverse Tom Brady scandal. After failing to secure a bailout, Hawaii announced this week that its exchange would be shut down amid rising debt.

In Maryland, a state audit found that its health insurance exchange “improperly billed the federal government $28.4 million as former Gov. Martin O’Malley’s administration struggled to launch what would become one of the most troubled websites in the nation,” The Baltimore Sun reported in late March.

That’s in addition to the $90 million the state blew on technical problems. The state scrapped its junk website and forced enrollees to re-submit to the tortuous sign-up process all over again.

Last week, federal prosecutors subpoenaed the Massachusetts ObamaCare exchange after whistleblowers there exposed what a “technological disaster” its “Health Connector” program was.

Boston’s Pioneer Institute senior fellow in health care, Josh Archambault, released a report on Monday detailing the “complete incompetence” of the state’s health bureaucrats from Day One. But taxpayers would be lucky if incompetence were the only sin.

After firing the tech boneheads of CGI, the same company behind the federal Healthcare.gov meltdown, Massachusetts officials “appear to have lied to the federal government to cover up mistakes” made by both the state and the IT company.

As health care analyst Phil Kerpen of the free-market group American Commitment points out, Massachusetts “already had a functioning state health exchange” but “after receiving $179 million from federal taxpayers” to reconstitute it under ObamaCare, “they were able to break that existing exchange beyond repair.” An amazing feat.

Lesson for inventive Scouts and students wondering about what people in Washington, DC, prototype: Government bureaucrats don’t make things, kids. They break things."

I wonder if the Girl Scout's Lego page turner was a government project. Probably not, if it worked efficiently.

The list of 10- was a good list ,but there is so much more, that should be mentioned.

Like

Got Osama Bin Laden

Saved the Auto Industry

Saved 1,000's of people's 401 K 's and other retirements.

Brought back the Housing Market.

Exported 2.4 Million Illegals

Cut the size of Government by,about 600,000 jobs.

Cut the National Debt.

Restored America's image in the world.

Continues to keep Bush and Cheney out of Jail even though they have been convicted as War Criminals.

Passed the Fair Pay for Women act.

Just to name 10-

That is why ,he is considered to be the best President ,in Modern History by,many Scholars.

But,one of the most important to me ,and many Americans,,he has single handedly, just about destroyed ,the Do Nothing Republican ,Liars,Racist and Bigots Party.

And all he had to do was be ,,,,BLACK,,,,,BECAUSE EVERY THING YOU VOTED FOR ,WHEN YOU VOTED FOR ,,MITT ROMNEY,,,OBAMA HAS GOT FOR YOU AND MORE.

Another success in his plan of changing America

World's largest private coal company declares bankruptcy
By Rick Moran

The Obama administration's war on coal claimed its most significant victim as Peabody Coal, the largest private coal company in the world, filed for bankruptcy today, citing several factors, including "ongoging regulatory challenges."

CNN Money:

"Peabody has a new management team, outstanding workforce, unmatched asset base and strong underlying operational performance that represent a key driver in the company's future success," CEO Glenn Kellow said in a statement announcing the Chapter 11 filing.

In addition to plummeting coal prices, the company cited weakness in China's economy, overproduction of domestic shale gas and ongoing regulatory challenges as reasons for its declining prospects.

Peabody reported a loss of $2 billion last year. Revenue tumbled 17% to $5.6 billion as the average price and amount of coal that it sold fell. It warned of further declines this year due to reduced use of coal by U.S. utilities, along with lower demand from overseas markets

Amid growing speculation about the extent to which President Barack Obama is using his power to bolster the candidacy of Hillary Clinton, recent comments made by the commander in chief about the "crap show" in Libya, among other things, underscore how difficult that line is to toe.

During a telling interview with Fox News this weekend, Obama admitted that "failing to plan for the day after" the 2011 U.S.-backed toppling of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was "worst mistake" of his presidency.

The admission followed similar comments made by the president in a lengthy interview with the Atlantic published this month during which he called Libya "a mess" and privately described the failed state as a "crap show."

Given that the overthrow of Gaddafi is "one of the policies cited by Clinton as one of her chief accomplishments," as Vanity Fair's Tina Nguyen notes, Obama's statements could be problematic for the former secretary of state.

During a television interview in 2011, Clinton infamously joked about the fall of Gaddafi saying, "We came, we saw, he died." Even on the campaign trail, the presidential hopeful defended the employment of military support in Libya, describing it as "smart power at its best."

Nguyen writes:

Obama’s comments highlight a growing divide with Clinton as she seeks to win the Democratic presidential nomination. As secretary of state, Clinton was one of the strongest proponents of the U.S. intervention in the Libyan civil war against Gadhafi; according to the New York Times, the decision to commit military assets to ending the dictator’s 42-year-old regime was “arguably her moment of greatest influence as secretary of state.” While Obama has now pointed to that decision multiple times as one of his biggest regrets, he has also used the same logic to defend his reticence to intervene in Syria, where Clinton has urged a more militaristic approach, including a no-fly zone.

Hillary was a DRAG on the otherwise sterling Obama foreign policy legacy. He could have had TWO Nobel Peace prizes if not for the warmongering valkyrie presidential pretender contender Hillary.

Worst year for jobs since '45
Annual loss biggest since end of World War II. Unemployment rate rises to 7.5

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The hemorrhaging of American jobs accelerated at a record pace at the end of 2008, bringing the year's total job losses to 2.6 million or the highest level in more than six decades.

A sobering U.S. Labor Department jobs report Friday showed the economy lost 524,000 jobs in December and 1.9 million in the year's final four months, after the credit crisis began in September.

The unemployment rate rose to 7.2% last month from 6.7% in November - its highest rate since January 1993.

The steep annual drop in jobs marked the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945, the year in which World War II ended.

"We're seeing a complete unraveling of the labor market and are on track for getting beyond 10% unemployment," said Lawrence Mishel, president of the Economic Policy Institute.

The total number of unemployed Americans rose by 632,000 to 11.1 million.

November, in which 584,000 jobs were lost, and December marked the first time in the 70-year history of the report in which the economy lost more than 500,000 jobs in consecutive months.

"We have a bigger economy now, but even on a proportional basis, the last months have been the worst since [1945]," said Kurt Karl, head of economic research at Swiss Re. "It's just an enormous acceleration of job losses."

By comparison, the 2.6 million jobs lost in 2008 nationwide were equal to the number of jobs found in states such as Wisconsin, Missouri or Maryland.

Under-employment at a record high---------->>>>>>>>

A growing number of workers seeking full-time jobs were able to find only part-time work. Those working part-time jobs - because they couldn't find full-time work, or their hours had been cut - jumped by 715,000 people to 8 million, the highest since such records were first kept in 1955.

The so-called under-employment rate, which counts those part-time workers as well as those without jobs who have become discouraged and stopped looking for work, rose to a record 13.5% from 12.6%. Calculations for that measure began in January 1994.

"The existing unemployment figures are greatly understated," said billionaire steel tycoon Wilbur Ross in a recent interview with CNNMoney.com. "They count as employed someone who used to have a high-paid manufacturing job, and now is working at a Wal-Mart or a Wendy's."

In another discouraging sign, ------>>the average hourly work week fell last month to 33.3 hours ------->>>> the lowest level in history - from 33.5 hours. Even with a modest 5-cent gain in the average hourly salary, the average weekly paycheck fell by $2 to $611.39.------>

Job losses widespread
Job losses were spread across a wide variety of industries. Manufacturing lost 149,000 jobs, the leisure and hospitality industries cut 22,000 jobs, and the mining industry shed 1,000 positions.

Even in the midst of the holiday shopping season, retailers still slashed payrolls by 66,600 workers last month.

Professional and business services jobs, a category seen by some economists as a proxy for overall economic activity, dropped by 113,000. And financial services jobs fell by 14,000.

Only two of ten industry categories were hiring last month. Government hiring, which has stayed relatively strong throughout the downturn, added another 7,000 jobs in December. Education and health services also grew payrolls by 45,000 employees.

Construction employment shrank further by 101,000 jobs, and the rate of construction unemployment soared to 15.3% - by far the highest of any group.

PMB your stupidity has no bounds. Everything you posted there happened because of democrat entitlement legislation. Nafta signed into law by Bill Clinton, The repeal of the glass/stegal act, signed into law by Bill Clinton. The community re-investment act again signed into law by Bill Clinton. Nafta has cost this country millions of high paying jobs and still is. Glass stegal was wall street regulations. The CRA is what ushered in subprime lending which is what collapsed the banks, the stock market and the economy. None of these had anything to do G.W. Bush or Cheney. You PMB are a prime example of why the country is in the mess it is in because most just repeat lies like you rather then placing the blame on the responsible people who actually caused the problems to begins with.

When Bush left office US Labor participation rate was 65.8%, it has been on a steady decline under Obama 62.5%. That is easy enough to verify unless of course you are a bought and paid for tax payer abuser that carries water for the ones promoting dependency like you.

History of NAFTA

By Kimberly Amadeo
US Economy Expert

Updated March 22, 2016.
NAFTA is the North American Free Trade Agreement. It was envisioned at least 30 years ago to reduce trading costs, increase business investment, and help North America be more competitive in the global marketplace.

What Is Its History?

The impetus for ---------->NAFTA actually began with President Ronald Reagan,<---------who campaigned on a North American common market. In 1984, Congress passed the Trade and Tariff Act.

This is important because it gave the President "fast-track" authority to negotiate free trade agreements, while only allowing Congress the ability to approve or disapprove, not change negotiating points. Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney agreed with Reagan to begin negotiations for the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, which was signed in 1988, went into effect in 1989 and is now suspended since it's no longer neeeded.

Meanwhile, Mexican President Salinas and------> President Bush began negotiations for a liberalized <----trade between the two countries. Prior to NAFTA, Mexican tariffs on U.S. imports were 250% higher than U.S. tariffs on Mexican imports. In 1991, Canada requested a trilateral agreement, which then led to NAFTA. In 1993, concerns about liberalization of labor and environmental regulations led to the adoption of two addendums.

NAFTA was signed by -------->President George H.W. Bush,-<-----Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1992. It was ratified by the legislatures of the three countries in 1993. The U.S. House of Representatives approved it by 234 to 200 on November 17, 1993.

The U.S. Senate approved it by 60 to 38 on November 20, three days later.

It was finally signed into law by President Bill Clinton on December 8, 1993 and entered force January 1, 1994. Although it was signed by President Bush, it was a priority of President Clinton's, and its passage is considered one of his first successes.

(Source: History.com, NAFTA Signed into Law, December 8, 1993)

What Is Its Purpose?

Article 102 of the NAFTA agreement outlines its purpose:

Grant the signatories Most Favored Nation status.
Eliminate barriers to trade and facilitate the cross-border movement of goods and services.
Promote conditions of fair competition.
Increase investment opportunities.
Provide protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
Create procedures for the resolution of trade disputes.
Establish a framework for further trilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation to expand the trade agreement's benefits. (Source: NAFTA Secretariat, "FAQ")
Has It Fulfilled Its Purpose?

NAFTA has eliminated trade barriers, increased investment opportunities, and established procedures for resolution of trade disputes. Most important, it has increased the competitiveness of the three countries involved - Canada, the U.S. and Mexico - on the global marketplace. That's made it the world’s largest free trade area (in terms of GDP).

This has become especially important with the launch of the European Union and the economic growth of China and other emerging market countries. In 2007, the EU replaced the U.S. as the world's largest economy.

The 2008 Presidential Campaign

Democrats,,,,against,,,,NAFTA,,,YOU VOTED FOR JOHN MCCAIN.,,WHO SUPPORTED NAFTA,, AS YOU KNOW ,,YOU VOTED FOR NAFTA.

NAFTA was attacked from all sides during the 2008 Presidential campaign. Barack Obama blamed it for growing unemployment. He said it helped businesses at the expense of workers in the U.S. It also did not provide enough protection against exploitation of workers and the environment along the border in Mexico. Hillary Clintonincluded the trade agreement in her pledge to strictly enforce all existing trade agreements, as well as halt any new ones. Both candidates promised to either amend or back out of the agreement all together.

In 2008, Republican candidate Ron Paul said he would abolish the trade agreement. He said it was responsible for a Superhighway and compared it to the European Union. However, unlike the EU, NAFTA does not enforce a single currency among its signatories. Paul has maintained this position in his 2012 campaign.

Republican nominee John McCain supported NAFTA, as he did all free trade agreements. In fact, he wanted to enforce an existing section within it that promised to open up the U.S. to the Mexican trucking industry.

All of that to prove exactly what I said, man you must not have anything constructive to do with your time. I can prove I'm right I been doing that now for years but it's ok if you want to prove I'm right also. There are numerous rino's who supported Nafta I never denied that, I said Clinton signed it into law. LMAO, nobody with any intelligence at all takes you serious, you're a good laugh at best and pathetic at worse.

Obama should be on the money.
I just heard an audio clip on radio of Obama answering kids' questions in the UK. When listing things about his legacy he mentioned 'Saving the world from a global Depression.'

That's a lot bigger than Harriet Tubman. She only saved a small fragment of the American population. Obama saved all of humanity.
What's amazing is that it's likely he and PM truly believes this to be so.

And he gave us all free health care.

The peace prize is unworthy of such a large individual.
