One of the most divisive aspects of today's America is so-called political correctness. The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) jumped on the bandwagon, using this modern philosophy tool to begin actions against religion.
The tool is "deconstructionism," meaning that nothing in life has meaning other than whatever feeling and opinion anyone assigns. It's the foundation of the expression that everyone has their own opinion, and goes one step further: everyone's opinion is equally valid.
The "secular" movement is designed to eliminate all references to religion in society, under the guise of separation of Church and State. From the Constitution. Oddly enough, the movement elevates Islam to a high priority, and focuses mostly on Judeo-Christian religion.
Since American morality and ethics tend mostly to derive from the Christian religion, the secular movement is a direct attack on those moral values. The problem is that the ACLU, philosophy professors, and academic speakers have nothing as a replacement.
It's fine to tear down what exists. But without replacing it, then what's left? Nothing.
Here's a clear case of exactly this type of philosophic and legal warfare.

The site and video load a bit slowly, but give it the time and watch the video. It's about a case on its way to the Supreme Court, where the ACLU is demanding the tearing down of a WW I veteran's memorial because of its shape -- a cross.
If this case holds up, then an interesting problem will be what to do with all the crosses at such places like Arlington National Cemetery.
Is this the America we want to live in? I'm not particularly religious, but I accept that any society needs some form of moral structure. A legal system should follow a moral system. It should never create that moral system!
