White House Staffer Threatened Boyfriend, a U.S. Capitol Police Officer, With His Own Gun: Police
Barvetta Singletary is accused of firing her boyfriend's 40 caliber Glock 23 service weapon during an argument.

A Prince George's County woman goes from working inside the White House to facing possible prison time. She is accused of firing a gun at a Capitol Hill police officer. That officer is also her boyfriend. Police said the two had a fight over another woman.

A White House staffer threatened her boyfriend, a U.S. Capitol Police officer, with his own weapon during an argument, according to police.

According to charging documents, Barvetta Singletary sent her boyfriend a text on Friday, asking him to come to her Upper Marlboro home for sex. After they had sex, Singletary confronted her boyfriend about the other woman he was dating.

Investigators say Singletary asked her boyfriend to step outside, and they both went to his car. Once inside the car, Singletary asked to see her boyfriend's cellphones, police said. When he refused, Singletary reached into his bag and retrieved two cellphones and the victim's .40-caliber Glock 23 service weapon, charging documents state.

Singletary ran back into her home, and the victim followed, pleading with her to return his weapon.

Singletary demanded that the victim give her the passwords to the phones, but he refused, police said.

Singletary then pulled the gun out of its holster, pointed it at the victim and said, "You taught me how to use this. Don't think I won't use it," the arrest warrant said.

When the victim again refused to give her the passwords, Singletary said, "Your phone is more important than me holding the gun on you."

Singletary pointed the gun in the victim's direction and fired one round into the sofa where the victim was sitting, police said.

Fearing for his life, the victim ran away from the home. The victim told police he saw Singletary wipe the gun down with a towel. He then called 911.

Singletary was arrested at the scene without incident. She is charged with domestic violence.

Singletary is currently a Special Assistant to the President and House Legislative Affairs Liaison

A White House spokesperson said Singletary has been placed on unpaid leave, and her access to the White House complex has been revoked until they have more information.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for Southern Florida has determined the racially charged July 30 speech by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan did not cross the line of what is considered protected political speech under the First Amendment.

WND inquired last week with the U.S. Attorney's Office, asking for an opinion as to whether Farrakhan's call for 10,000 men to "rise up" and to "stalk them" and "kill them," warranted any sort of criminal investigation.

Farrakhan, in a fiery sermon delivered from the pulpit of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Miami, referred to a "400-year-old enemy," which many took to mean white people.

Louis Delgado, spokesman for the South Florida U.S. Attorney's citizen complaints division, responded Friday with the following statement:

"… after looking into the matter we have determined that the Farrakhan speech is protected by the First Amendment and we will not be pursuing an investigation into the speech."

FERGUSON, Mo., Aug 10 (Reuters) - Authorities declared a state of emergency in Ferguson, Missouri, after gunfire erupted on the anniversary of a high-profile police shooting and prosecutors on Monday charged an 18-year-old man with assault on officers.

The man, Tyrone Harris, was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police on Sunday night as people marked the shooting death one year ago of unarmed black man Michael Brown by a white officer in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis.

Police said Harris was being treated in hospital. They said St. Louis County prosecutors charged Harris, whose bond was set at $250,000, on four counts, including "assault on law enforcement" and shooting at a motor vehicle.

The violence, which also included a drive-by shooting and police being pelted with objects, prompted St. Louis County to declare a state of emergency.

"In light of last night's violence and unrest in the City of Ferguson, and the potential for harm to persons and property, I am exercising my authority as county executive to issue a state of emergency, effective immediately," County Executive Steve Stenger said in a statement.

On a day of civil disobedience called by activists in Missouri on Monday, several people were arrested after jumping barricades at a courthouse in St. Louis, news video reports showed.
