anybody else that bench show. I have been training dogs for 32 years. Obedience, SAR and now for the last 2 years, rabbit hunting. But one of my lifelong dreams was to show. I have had some awesome dogs in my lifetime, but never a "show quality". My chocolate lab comes from some of the best Lab lines there is. His Grand sire is in the Labrador Museum. Hennings Millwill Coppertone. His father is International Field trial champion from Europe. At 12 weeks old, my vet who breeds labs told me, you NEED to show this dog. But by 7 months, he was 27" at the shoulder. But he was an awesome SAR dog before he was forced into retirement.

Besides trying to find the dog to do it with. What do you feel are the most challenging issues with showing? The positives and negatives? Is it possible to show without a having a hefty savings account?

It all depends on where you live. I live in an area where getting to a dog show is difficult and expensive due to the price of gas really. Years ago when you didn't have to take out a loan to fill your car I went a lot. Entries are up to but, you can pick and choose if you live in a area with a lot of shows. The downside I guess is that its like any other competition. There are those who want to make it miserable and those who make it pleasant. I think beagles are less politcal than many breeds and for the most part owners show their dogs. If you go to http://www.infodog.com you can look up shows in your area by state. Go and meet some of the people and see what you think ;-)

Thanks! I really enjoy this board and all the wonderful people here. Now that Parker is retired you can watch for his beautiful Son "Uno" Ch. k-run's park me in first. This dog already has 5 all breed BIS this year. Hopefully he'll get on some of the televised shows that are coming up ;-)

Tons of shows in PA. Wish I had somebody else interested to go with me! I think the hardest part would actually be shopping for a pup.

The hardest part is someone that WILL sell you a good one and not try to pawn off their leftovers to the newbie.. I hate that kind of thing. You let either me or Cindy know when your ready and we'll be happy to help out. also, don't feel like you need to have someone to go to a show with. Just GO! meet some people and you'll most likely have instant friends.. That is until you get a really good one and beat them LOL

I think the fact that have been around purebred dogs of various breeds all my life will help. Ranging from chihuahuas (my parents, ugh) Fox, rat and jack russell terriers (my sister). I started with Doberman, moved on to Labs after I became a parent. Then added the beagles. I have exersized and trained everything from the Chihuahuas to St. Bernard's and done SAR with ... You name it. My biggest challenge will probably be finding one in a reasonable price range. When I am ready, you two will be the first to know! thanks

Tiffinis, check-out sundownbeagles.com. I've bought two pups from them and I've had good sucess in both AKC and UKC showing them. My male dog just won best of winners at the UKC hunting beagle nationals, and I didn't have to mortgage my house. lol Leah, I believe Parker was breed to one of they're females, My daughter showed a female pup out of that cross and won best of breed at an AKC trial.

My Brother and I also have a few pups from Don McVay at Sundown Kennels. You can not go wrong with their dogs. We also have a Parker pup and he is a great looking hound !

If you like Cindy's CJ male I have a litter of his grandpups just about ready to go. They will be dual purpose dogs. No you won't need a second mortgage to get one, these will be almost as good a buy as she got... not quite.

Thanks gang for all your input. This is something I am going to be doing more investigating into. I used to show horses up until I was 16. So I do understand some of the competition headaches.

I have a weakness for Lemon and Whites so I know I will be outnumbered, but if any of you have a good one that needs an honorable home....LOL.

I spent Saturday night reading the 15 page thread here that started about Parker then went off. I can understand both sides of the issue. I have some awesome Patch hounds that would literally hunt themselves to death if we allowed it. The Patch line has been linebred for over 110 years with very few outcrosses. Now I will get hounded for this, pun intended, but I see areas in the Patch line that could stand an out cross once in awhile with something with better conformation, but that still had the hunt desire. I have an awesome female that I wont be breeding until next year, but I have already started doing homework to find the perfect stud... I know, few and far in between. I would consider a show stud, IF he had the right lines, IF he had hunt drive, IF IF IF IF. But I also know I will catch flack from fellow Patch breeders. I can trace my dogs lines WAY back. But anybody that can not look at their dogs, and honestly access the areas where they are weak, in my mind shouldnt be breeding. Whether field or show.

I really love this board and both sides of it. Truly a learning process.

Now to find that dog show to go to...... :D

Hey...how did I miss this thread??? Tigger is in Va. and they decided they didn't want to get into showing which is a bummer because the judges REALLY like him and his sister that I am keeping (Leah's Parker is their uncle).
I have a Parker daughter, my CH. Laurie, that I am going to breed to the dog Larry sold me who is in this avatar. I wouldn't doubt if I get a R & W or two. When the time comes hit me up and we'll work something out if you want to. She looks like she is coming in now....
