and yes... idiot is the nicest word i can use for them.

i been trying to move a male dog and i got a couple serious guys that are making plans to get him... so i get a call from steve 219-380-9250 and we talk and he says he wants the dog and will get him late the next day. so i say ok but i got a couple other guys thinking about it too and he says dont worry, i will see you tomorrow.

well tomorrow comes (and goes) and no steve. i leave him a message and ask whats up. basically he "just couldny make it". so he says how bot the day after tomorrow? i tell him ok, call me when you get close and i will meet at a truckstop close by. note- he has my full address and exact location of truckstop

well the date comes (and goes) again and i figure ok, no deal, i wont hear from him anymore i guess.

next day his brother karl 219-608-5713 calls and says who he is and they want to come over tomorrow (its always tomorrow ) and get the dog. once again i say fine call me when you get close.

he calls now on "the day" and says we are leaving in 45 minutes.

2 hours later he calls and says "hey your kinda far away, will you drive halfway". i say no way as im not gonna be left 2 hours away waiting for these 2 dopes to come up with another excuse. and he says "well we cant make it today (wow thats shocking )... what about tomorrow?"

i just hung up the phone and am done for good with these two idiots. i will wait for a certain other guy to get this dog... i know he is trustworthy.

anyway sorry to rant and ramble... watch out for these 2 guys and their phone #'s. if i could remember their last names, id post them.

Brian, I run into this all the time and not just on the net and with beagles but, people have become totally unreliable. When I was a kid, your word was your bond. period. Now, it means nothing to a lot of people.

Case in point, I advertised a light for sale on this site. A guy sent me an e-mail, a phone number and said he would take it if I was close to Ann Arbor, Michigan. I live only a few miles from there so I sent him a message and told him I could meet him anytime. I even left him my phone number and called the one he gave me. Nothing. He has never returned any messages. Frustrating but I quickly sold the light to someone more reliable.

Sell to people you have experience with and know to be straight up.

i think we need some sort of feedback forum kinda like they got on ebay. that way you can check out someones rating before you decide to buy or sell to them.

I will not "buy and cry" but the feedback idea seems to be a real good one for this site since there are so many dogs up for sale. A dog (or anything else for that matter) should come with a trial or warranty to be sure both people who enter into an agreement are satisfied. At least that is the way I try to do it. A trade that has two satisfied people, is a good trade. I am from Kentucky and some of my own people (relatives) feel that a good trade is where someone really gets f****d and someone else does really good. I have many people in Michigan too so I don't want to hear from the Kentucky overly sensitive ones). Not my style and not opinion of what we should encourage.

I dont sell that many dogs, but when I do, you give me the money and go try the dog for a week or two. If your not happy, you bring it back, If your happy, you keep the dog, then everyone is happy.

IMO there is no excuse not to give a trial. Its bad to drive 5 hours to pick up a dog and then have to drive 5 hours back, but better than complete loss and sometimes thats the cost of buying finished dogs rather than raising them.

I think the feedback idea is good, but if everyone just offers a 1 week trial the problem is solved. A feedback board could be used to expose those who didnt honor their trial. Unfortunately when dealing with someone you have never met, getting it in writing will also be necessary.

When you want a couple beagles real bad, you want to believe people and give them the benefit of the doubt. I think its a learning curve all beaglers go through, for some its more painful than others.

got a message late last nite from one of the brothers stating how they still wanted the dog and that they "were 2 of the best guys id ever meet" ...lol. i just deleted it and went to bed... ive always thought that if YOU have to tell people how good or honest YOU are... then you probably really not. at first i was mad about this whole thing... now its kinda turning into a joke... but there is no punchline... they are serious... they just wont give up.

JMO i believe you should show a hound in the field doing what it does best or worse. If you run and gun over the hound and the guy/gal likes him he pays you and all is done from that point on.If they know a good hound the buyer will make the right decision period.....

Ok now for the 1 to 2 wk free trial if you don't like you bring them back deal. NO!Why?
Ok lets say you let the guy take the hound you have money in hand, he brings him back gun shy,snake bit,does not feed him the hole time, or mistreats your dog to the point it's man shy, puts him in a pen full of Parvo hounds to be brought back to your kennels or who knows what else and you hand him the money back then what troubles do you have.

a dog you will never sell, or dies, one you can never hunt over again or catch, plus kills every hound in your kennel.

Nope done been down that road and didn't fall of the tator wagon yesterday. I had a guy one time come and get a hound on a 1 wk trial bases and thankfully it was just for a week cause he ran this dog to the point of death, did not feed him the hole time and miss treated him, plus we almost got into a fight when he brought him back like this plus the law showed up and told me to give him his money and take a civil suit against him.

It's not worth it to me, show them in the field and if they buy them, its there hound if they don't then ya meet another beagler no hard feelings and no damage done.
