When you say "swampers" exactly what are you talking about? Are these wild rabbits that the folks in the south refer to as "cane cutters"? Twice to 2 1/2 times the size of a normal cotton tail? Or are these some type of domestic rabbit?
I've hunted swamp rabbits in east Tn,Kentucky bottom land, out around the Mississippi River in the Delta,in Louisiana and in Arkansas but never knew of anybody that raised them.

X2

I've always wondered if a wild "Swamper" would survive up here in the winter?
We have plenty of marshes and swamps, but they obviously freeze over in the winter.

"Swampers" in captivity, like all training rabbits came from wild rabbits in England. Same as all of our domestic rabbits in the good ol' US OF A. The wild swampers, or "cane cutters"as you call them are Eastern Cottontails, a completely different animal with different strings of cromosones.
These "Swampers" that I sell are good and fast. I had a guy call me last Saturday, said he has bought Red Backs, San Juans, Smokey Mountains, but the fastest ones he has gotten so far are the ones he bought from me. No brag just fact. I suggest getting these young and putting them out in pens asap so they get running legs early in life. Many people leave thiers on wire half of thier life, I don't think they run as well; JMHO.

Thanks, and God Bless,
Bob

Are these fast enough to outrun all age hounds?

Remmy,
I had one of my brood females get loose, couldn't catch her for a couple of days, and 2 of my adult dogs got on her, ran her into the woods behind my barn out of ear shot. I thought, boy, that's the end of her; 2 days later she came hopping back inside the barn at feeding time. I set a trap and caught her, she is one of my best does. Not saying they can't get caught, but she didn't, and that's what I breed for-rabbits that run. I've had puppies catch smaller bunnies in the sight chasing pen, and my rabbits will jump, squeel, scratch, and fight to get away. A few may lay down, but not many. That being said, I don't think anything compairs to a wild rabbit, and I've tried most all of them.

Thanks, and God Bless,
Bob
