Hi Stacy;

Please refer to p. 264 of your book on the subject of mastitis. I recommend a 3-step process for prevention, beginning with prophylactic treatment before the pups are born, to proper weaning of the pups from the mama post-whelp (pp.274-276).

The short answer is Trimethoprim-Sulfa is my drug of choice, but Cephalexin and Clavamox work well also. However, the information that you'll find in the above sections will help prevent your bitch from contracting mastitis in the first place.

I got mine in the mail today,I would recomend this book to anyone that owns dogs.It is filled with vital info that will save money and is also a very good how to guide.
