Beagle Pup for 10 year old boy...grade ok

My neighbors son who has "struggled" socially is very interested in getting a beagle pup. He had one a few years ago and it was hit on the road when it followed him out to the school bus. Since that time he has wanted another one but his mom and dad have been hesitant because he was so distraught when his other one was hit. Everytime I stop over there he asks me about my beagles and if I am ever going to have puppies. Again this weekend he asked me and I told him that I was going to all male dogs and I probably wouldn't have puppies for quite awhile....needless to say he was crushed. I didn't know that his mom and dad had told him that they would consider it so long as it came from my house (I use thier land to run on most of the time and they know my dogs very well).

I spoke with his mom and dad and told them the situation with my kennel and that I wouldn't be having any puppies anytime soon but I may be able to find something for him and it wouldn't cost them a dime. They gave me the ok to pursue getting one....

This dog does not need to be anything special...It will be more of a companion to him than a hunting dog (accidental breeding, grade,,etc). Let me know if you know of anything available in the central Ohio area. I will be the one paying for it, transporting it to him, and setting him up with a box and kennel so pm me if you have anything. Just trying to do my good deed for the year and make a kid happy.

I have a litter due the 8th of june, they are out of some gundogs of my dads. Both parent can drive a rabbit, if you haven't found one by the time these are old enough, I'll give him one. They should be tri-colored and about fourteen inch hounds. Just let me know either way. Thanks

I'll even meet you part of the way with it, due to gas prices, just want to get the kid started off right, no kids interested= no future!

I have a couple of fixed 4 year old females that will rabbit hunt but are nothing special, both are great dogs and are people dogs. Would let them go to a good home. Would prefer that they went as a pair since they are litter mates and have always been kenneled together. Both dogs are fixed, current on all shots, heartworm meds and frontline, both are somewhat over weight. They are free as long as they go to a good home. Located in Indy.

Fast- I'll keep in touch with you. I am planning on spending some time with this young man and his parents this weekend to be sure everyone is ok with it. Would love to get this kid through the entire process..puppy, training, handling,,,etc.

MightyOaks - Thanks for the offer but Missouri is a little far for me.

Beaglehandler - I'm going to try to get the boy through the entire process training and all. Plus I don't think his mom and dad are going to go for two...had a hard enough time talking them into one (wait until he gets real interested and has 5-10 )

To all....What a great response, on here and with PM's....Amaizing!! Hopefully it will give this kid something to do. His brother, age 7, is big into the farming end of things and from what I see he tends to shy back and spends time too much time inside. He just reminds me of a kid that is looking for the right hobby to keep him out of trouble and to get involved.

ohiohntr,I have a couple chain link kennels here at the house I am not using since I got my above ground kennels.They need a little work but if this boy needs a kennel for when you find a dog for him he can have one of them.I wish I still had those 2 blueticks I would have given one to him.Give me a call,Brian

We have a 6 month old beautiful tri-color female that is well bred from AKC stock but I did not register the litter.(LPRCh O's Bluebelly out of Spicers Blueback is the sire and Dam is a FC Sunset Scooter daughter)She is eager to please and has been handled by my 11 year old daughter,I was going to start her and sell her this fall but would let her go for $100 (I promised my daughter that is what she could get for it)

if your interested i have 2 litters of accidental breeding pups(our akc male got in with two grade females)..their sire is akc and a good hunter their dam is grade but still a good hunter...we are selling them for $75 each with no shots they are getting their first worming now (check out the worms post) one litter should be completly weined next week the other litter bout a week later..

i think at this point i may have 2 males in the first litter and a female in the second available..they are going pretty quick though so if interest let me know

Fellas....I have to say you guys should applaud yourselves!!!!

I have had an outpouring of support to get this boy setup with a beagle, kennel, dog house, and training gear. In fact, I was a little premature in my asking because I didn't know how much of a response I would get and I didn't want to get this little guys hopes up and then not be able to produce.

I am still working on getting the ok from his mom and dad to set him up but I think they will eventually cave into the idea. They are not real "outdoors/hunting" types and they are very protective of him and his feelings. Before I make a commitment of taking him a dog, I want to be sure that the dog is going to a family that is "ok" with the everything that comes along with owning a beagle.

Hey Ohiohntr, It's good to see beaglers like you willing to go the extra mile for a youngster. I hope I can do the same thing one day. I have a 6month old tri colored puppy I took in from my cousins friend. He is not registered but his dad is an excellent hunter and he loves kids too. Well I'm sorry to say that the deal fell through.....

After much deliberation with his mom and dad they came to the decision that they were not going to allow him to have a pup right now. I have let him "claim" one of mine that is in my kennel an told him he could come over and see him anytime he wanted...unfortunately he does this anyway. They decided that there are too many things going on right now to be able to give the pup the time that it needs...which I respect.

Anyhow thanks for the generous offers and kind words...

Just so everyone has an idea of how generous people on here were...he was offered
- 6 unborn pups, 2 six month to one year pups, and 2 running hounds
- 3 free bags of dog food
- A chain link kennel with dog house
- engraved collar and lead strap

I will let everyone know if something changes but it is very sad as I was cerainly pumped up about giving something back to the sport.
