Silver Creek Picnic

Post by kcole »

It’s that time of year again. Spring has sprung, so it’s time to get your next-year derbies started, get your yard in shape, plant your garden, and, most importantly, get ready to attend the Silver Creek 2013 Picnic! Most of you have been there before, but for those that have not, let us give you some information on what goes on and just way it truly is beagling’s largest event of the year.

The fun starts bright and early Friday, July 20, although many arrive Thursday evening. Breakfast will be served Friday morning, and all three of our enclosures will be open. You can spend the day talking dogs, buying raffle tickets, running dogs, socializing with fellow beaglers, or buying/selling dogs. There will be hundreds of dogs and pups to choose from. Plus, we always have lots of vendors onsite with dog-related items. Noon will bring a hot dog/brat cookout. On Friday evening, we will have our BBQ supper.

On Saturday there will be more of the same, plus much more, including a Field Champion run. Just set up a time with the owners of Field Champions to watch them run. Later in the morning we will have our annual Parade of Champions where all Field Champions attending will line up to get their pictures made for you and the various beagling magazines. At noon we will have our free pitch-in picnic lunch (please bring a dish). You will be amazed at the spread of food that will be available!

Following lunch, at approximately 1:00 pm, we will have our live auction and the drawing for winner’s choice of all stud services donated. This auction will have hundreds of super nice beagle-related items, sporting goods, dogs, things for kids, and lots of other miscellaneous items. Later in the day, usually around 6:00 pm, we will have the drawing for all the raffle items. We will have a Garmin Alpha GPS Track and Train System*, a whelping pen, guns, dog boxes, knives, choice of all donated stud services, and many more quality items to raffle off. We normally have over a dozen items, including at least three quality guns.

After the raffle drawings, we will turn the festivities over to the MAB for their annual awards presentation. After the presentations are over, we will have supper available at the Club house. Then, it will be time to get ready for the dance and singing party with live DJ’s and sing-alongs.

We have camping hook-ups and kennels available on a first come, first served basis, with bathrooms and showers in the Club House. Bring the family and come out and enjoy a weekend with beaglers from all parts of the country (and maybe even Canada)!
