In exhaustive tests with the help of Delta Force, the upgraded weapon was subjected to mud and dust without maintenance, and fired day after day. Despite this treatment, the rifle showed problems in only 1 of 15,000 rounds – fully 3 times the reliability shown by the M4 in US Army studies. The H&K 416 was declared ready in 2004.

Really Ricky the design of the H&K's, FAL's and Israeli Galil's has always been superior. They're just not American made. You would have thought by now that our government would have secured the rights to copy the design.
I have had the pleasure of owning and firing a H&K G3 and I have to tell you that is one fine weapon. With a recoil spring that runs the entire length of the barrel and receiver it just does not jam. The draw back being it is one heavy S.O.B.
However I really do not see why we have not secured the rights to copy the Galil by now given all the aid we send to Israel year after year. Any weapon that is combat tested on a near daily basis has to be good.

the galil is an awesome weapon!! not a "tack driver" but more accurate than needed for combat situations... 2 or 3" at 100 yards avg. its shoots the .223 caliber and uses 35 round steel mags. they are a little heavier than an AR but cheaper to get and much easier to build and maintain.

in defense of the M-4 (ar15), they are very reliable top shelf guns if put together right and maintained by average cleanings. but the gov mass produces them and usually get parts from the lowest $$bidder. im sure if our gov switched over galil, that they would try to cut corners and "junk them up".

not that im any sort of an expert on either gun... but i own a couple of each and am very familiar with them. personally, id pick a stock version of the SKS for use in the middle east. you can teach a 10 year old to field strip and maintain them and they perform better under the sand and dirt everywhere over there. and they shoot 7.62X39 which has a lot more zip to it when you are fighting for your life.
