I'm planning on planting rye in the next coupe of weeks on some fairly light ground. I'm in Allegan County Michigan. Currently, this plot is planted to cow peas which are doing reasonably well considering the crab grass exploded this spring. The peas are there, you just have to look. I also have a bumper crop of sand burs. I'm not sure whether to brush hog it all and then plow it under or try to burn the plot. Burning would eliminate a lot of the sand burs' potential for growing next year. I could also mow it and rake it into piles to burn. Next year I want to put corn in this plot and that I can treat with herbicides. I've had good luck with oats in some of my lighter ground too. What do you guys plant?

Rye or wheat.
