In a GDB the dogs are supposed to be cast for hunt and tested for gunshyness. However as of yet the AKC rulebook does not include this in the written rules.....so, acording to the rulebook there is no difference.

I have e mailed the AKC regarding this and got no reply. I have brought it to the attention of the AKC Field Rep at a Judging seminar and he agreed that it should be included in the Rulebook but as yet it has not been added.

Mr. VanSickle, I tend to agree with you but it doesn't have to be that way. A brace is two dogs. PERIOD. Speed of the hounds has nothing to do with the trial format. A Large Pack club could hold a Gundog Brace Trial on Hare if it so chooses. In fact I've taken part in a Gundog Brace 1st series/ Small Pack second and subsequent series on Hare...It was my hounds first win, and as you may know in small pack the last two dogs remaining are run as a brace until the winner has been determined. I wouldn't call the dogs that day slow by any standard.

Two dogs running head to head in competition is an outstanding way to evaluate a hounds performance. And can closely resemble a hunting situation. Just my opinion.
