A 2009 Derby is a dog born between July 1, 2007 & June 30, 2008.
A 2010 Derby is a dog born between July 1, 2008 & June 30, 2009.

The way I read it, he'd be a Derby next year, 2010 if he's 10 months old.
Hope this helps.

A Derby Trial is a type of trial for young dogs meeting the age requirements (above), run under the AKC Format. No championship points are awarded (kind of a fun trial). Many times the sexes are combined into a 13" & a 15" Class. Am I making sense? For an advertisement example, check out the one for Java Village, probably a couple of threads down.

As Gene stated the dates he gave a SPO Derby year. Large Pack on Hare is any hound before it is 2 years old can run in a LPH derby trial.
