my pup has a kink in it's tail.
will that have any effect on his bench placement?

Ant, Yes. It will affect his bench placement. Without looking it up I believe that 5 points are assisgned to the tail. Depending on how kinked it is, I would deduct at least two points from his total score. This would leave him with 98 points if the rest of him is "perfect".
