Proposed Rule Changes in NKC Little pAck

Just wondered what some of you guys thought about the proposed rule changes. These are a few of them that each club will be voting on.
These may not be word for word but I was just curious what other beaglers hought.
1. They want to have shorter checks and they want the score read after each rabbit.
2. A dog that starts the check should get the points not the dog that cuts him.
3. To get a champion certificate a dog must hunt, circle a rabbit and a gun fired over him in a one hour time period. Certifiation commitee will be made up of state representatives.
4. A dog has to be standing with his legs straight to be measured and can not exceed 15.5 in. Every dog has to be measured in the final cast.
5. A dog that runs off game will be given 10 minutes to be handled if the handler has the dog back in 10 minutes dog is not scratched.
6. No penalty for first offense off game runers but lose 10 HOF points on the second.
7. If a dog minuses out in the final cast he gets last in the cast and places in the hunt.
8. A dog can get a first and champion at the end of the year. Dog does not have to move up in class.
This is just a few maybe some others can post some more
Thanks

I am with Preacher on this one, but what is the reasoning for waiting to measure the final cast? Seems it would make more sense to measure before hunt starts. Also, what does #8 mean when it says the dog doesn't have to move up in class?

If you see the packet that NKC sent out, it'clear to see that what they're wanting to do is alter the whole format (and for who?). If you don't like Lp there's other formats. I don't understand changing the majority of the rules and not make the judges, breed inspectors, and MOH retake their tests. I say leave Little Pack, Little Pack! JMO!

I like the certification rule just like they promote in Progressive Pack. Having to circle a rabbit and have a gun shot over them is what some people have been trying to get for years, but I doubt it will pass this time as it has failed over and over again.

i just wonder what has brought about all this change. we are running little pack, i say leave it little pack. as far as the certification, i am totally against that. if we had state reps we could trust it would be different, but most won't help you if there is nbot something in it for them. what if they take you some where that there is no rabbit? come on, that can happen. as far as running off game, they should be scratched, the only thing it might help is if a dog harkens to a dog that is running off game and the judge like most will scratch them all.
i see them trying to incorporate nck pp, ukc hb, as well as akc mw and call it little pack. i completely disagree with it all.

i say leave it alone for the most part, but i would like to see the check go from 15 to 10 lot of good dogs get the Check and gone before 15.
and i would like to see the JUMP made 40, got to have a dog jump a Rabbit before you can have a Rabbit Race.. just my thoughts

I like the score being read after each rabbit. I judge, and always give the score after each race.
I would hate to get surprised by a score that I didnt agree with at all.

Why wouldn't they measure the dog's at the beginning of the hunt

Because if you get a dog into the final cast and he measures out your screwed. I agree with the shorter checks as long as the dog can produce the rabbit. I like the certification idea too. If a dog can't do this to become a champion I wouldn't want to hunt with him. But the rest I don't understand why.JMO

The last rule where a dog can stay in the lower cast, after champion, is just plan STUPIED. That is not fair to the people that bring a young dog to its first hunt, and some one brings there HOY dog that is 3 or more years older. Plus there is a lot of people that can't afford to run like the people, that run in the HOY contest. It would be the worst move the NKC, ever made.
A dog that runs off game should be gone for the rest of the hunt. I like the shorter checks. I think they should the dogs should be measured before the hunt starts. I have mixed fillings about the cert. part, because you might take the dog to a area and there might not be a rabbit up, and the way the everything is going up (in price) some people can't afford to keep going to trails every weekend to try to get dog champion. Maybe tweak it a little bit, but not a complete overhaul.

I dont run any NKC but I will still give my opinion.
1. They want to have shorter checks and they want the score read after each rabbit.
Why even have a time limit at all? A check is a check and ive never owned a dog that could count. The faster they can get the check the better.
3. To get a champion certificate a dog must hunt, circle a rabbit and a gun fired over him in a one hour time period. Certifiation commitee will be made up of state representatives.
Every format should do this. In the formats that I have ran in that did this the only people who didnt like the idea were the ones that owned dogs that couldnt circle a rabbit on thier own.
4. A dog has to be standing with his legs straight to be measured and can not exceed 15.5 in. Every dog has to be measured in the final cast.
15.5"????? What happened to the 15" standard?????
5. A dog that runs off game will be given 10 minutes to be handled if the handler has the dog back in 10 minutes dog is not scratched.
SEND THEM HOME AND FORGET ABOUT THE 10 MINUTES!
8. A dog can get a first and champion at the end of the year. Dog does not have to move up in class.
When they meet all requirements to move up they should move up. No questions asked.

Brief Explanation for #8: To Champion a dog needs a 1st place and 100 points. Immediately upon achieving these requirements the dog becomes a champion and no longer gets Open HOY points. He immediately starts running in the Champion class and gets Champion HOY points. It sounds like with this rule change the dog would continue to run as an Open and obtain Open HOY points until the end of the year regardless of when he met the Champion requirements.
Some good points and some bad points to this one. Depends on if you are trying to stay in the top ten to make the Run Off.
