FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Evansville, IN - Professional Kennel Club, Inc., the nation's largest licensing body for competitive hound events is proud to announce the first PKC Rabbit Champion. The Rabbit Champion degree is awarded to PKC-registered hounds that earn $500 in PKC beagle hunts.

The first recipient of the PKC Rabbit Champion degree is a four-year old, 14 inch Beagle male, bred, owned, and handled by Earl Bruner of Waddy, Kentucky. PKC CH Bruner's Gambler was sired by Bruner's Big Ben and is out of Bruner's Cassie. Cassie is the product of 31 years of breeding by Bruner and was the 2nd female in history to be voted into the NKC/ARHA Hall of Fame.

CH Bruner's Gamber has the distinction of being the winner of the very first PKC Small Pack event hosted by the Erie Canal Beagle Club at Lynnville, IN in May of 2002. Gambler is also an NKC/ARHA Grand Rabbit Champion and placed 6th in the NKC/ARHA World hunt in 2003.

CH Bruner's Gambler currently has $1,551 in PKC lifetime earnings and is well on the way to the PKC Silver Rabbit Champion degree, awarded at the $2,500 lifetime earnings level. PKC Gold Rabbit Champion is awarded at the $5,000 level with the ultimate degree, the PKC Platinum Rabbit Champion degree coming when the dog has earned $10,000 in lifetime PKC earnings.

Congratulations to Earl Bruner and Gamber for reaching this milestone in beagling history.

Nutbush,

PKC stands for the Professional Kennel Club. For years they have been one of the primary players in field trialing for coondogs. PKC and UKC are the primary registries for coondogs and trials. PKC is starting to get involved with the beagles and is offering two different formats. The first format is PKC "Small Pack". The dogs that run in ARHA Little Pack and Progressive pack should do well in PKC Small Pack. PKC also offers the "Hound and Hunter" format which is a one dog/one hunter type format alot like the UKC style beagle program. The small pack has a non-hunting judge that follows the dogs and scores strikes, jumps and checks. Where the H&H format is different, they use a hunting judge and the dog is scored on a line for speed and drive. Also in H&H format the handler calls his dog on the strike. So to answer your question the H&H format is probably closer to SPO but yet still quite different. PKC hunts for money awards instead of trophies. Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to contact me or better yet call Steve Fielder, Sr. VP of PKC, and I am sure he would be glad to help you out.
