AKC Midwest Association
What does it take to run the Midwest Format?? A AKC club is opening in Oakland City, Indiana and Ibelieve the midwest format will be there. Just curious on what a dog needs to do and have in that format.

Re: AKC Midwest Association
MId-West Beagle Gundog Association is not a format, but instead a group of AKC clubs that run similar style hounds. While primarily Small Pack Option only, a couple of our clubs do run large pack format as well. Whether it be an SPO or Large Pack trial, Mid-West typical runs a medium-fast to fast aggressive, hard hitting, clean, close, good hunt GUNDOG. The type of dog that places on a particular day has much to do with running and scenting conditions as well as particular judge's tolerances. Some judges being more lenient than others.
The Mid-West hound is one of very few that can pretty much go anywhere in the country and be competitive. Whether it be in our own association, Southern Large Pack, New York & New England Large Pack and SPO Trials, Northern MI Hare large pack, UKC, ARHA Little Pack, CKC Large Pack, etc. I think that says a lot for type of dog our association runs as well as the quality and adaptability of our hound.
The club in particular at Oakland City, IN hasn't made their official request to join the Mid-West, but are more than welcome as any other AKC club that runs that type of hound promote in our association.
Best of luck to you or anyone else that would like to come try one of our trials. A full schedule of events can be found at http://www.mid-west-gundog.com

Oakland City, 17 mi north of where they hold the Little Pack World Hunt at Lynville.
I watched Cody's Sharpe Mikie get picked up at one of those for crossing a gobpile that no hound on the ground could track across, to keep the race going.
I liked it, but sometimes you gotta reach and not anchor or all is lost. Mikie was a rabbit smart hound...jmho... it's all fun

Re: AKC Midwest Association
Central Indiana Beagle Club is holding our fall AKC trial there. I didn't know that there was another club trying to get an AKC hunt together. Ours is scheduled for early October. When is theirs?

You do not have to be a member ,but you will recieve 0 points if you dont belong to a club. You must have akc number the day you run and have dogs that can be measured in eiether 13 or less or 15 or less.Midwest does a great job of running and promoting hard hitting run to catch type hounds. I would strongly suggest anyone to try a club .There are several good judges out there that judge dogs and not the other end of the lead strap....Big Mike wrote:What is needed to enter a dog in a hunt ? When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Re: AKC Midwest Association
That is Central Indiana Bealge Club. We got the charter from Illinois and are going to hold the hunt October 11th and 12th. We will post more when we get all the AKC papers back. We have our judges and all, just waiting on AKC. It will be a good trial. More than enough grounds and rabbits. I hope it is a big one. We all know that ground can hold big trials. Hope to see everyone who can make it there.

Re: AKC Midwest Association
Who does Central Indiana you guys have judging for you? Also was just looking at AKC's events calendar, there's about 3 to 4 other AKC clubs close to 100 miles of you having trials that weekend as well. AKC has policy where trials have to be at least 100 miles apart or agreement made between the two. You guys may have problems getting these slower SPO and Brace clubs agreeing to letting you run against them. Could end up having to call each and agree to run different running orders than them. If it was only one club would probably be easy, but with it being 3 to 4... Well
! Nevertheless best of luck with your trial.

Re: AKC Midwest Association
Don't see why it would be a problem to the other clubs for they don't want quicker dogs at their trials any way and they will let you know it up front.

Re: AKC Midwest Association
TC... AKC doesn't see it as different types of dogs. To them a beagle is a beagle. However we all know otherwise. Nevertheless if trials are within 100 mile radius of one another, they usually require a club to gain permission from the other club to be able to hold trials. Even though they man run different format or totally different style hounds.
Wildhare2... can you please respond with whom your judges are going to be?

Re: AKC Midwest Association
Is this true? You do not have to be a member ,but you will recieve 0 points if you dont belong to a club. .
If so, what if you are a member of another AKC club (SPO, Brace, LPH, UBGF, etc.) that is not in the mIdwest? Will AKC recognize points earned then?
How difficult is it to become a member?
I have several good friends that are members or officers in SPO and Midwest so it isn't a problem for me but I am sure there are many others who would be interested in running and need to join a club if the points thing is true. Otherwise it would be futile to run in the midwest trials if there is no formal credit given.
