Lost Festus today.

Ask all to remember Cody. His dog Festus died today. Anyone that has been to a field trial with Cody and Festus knows how close they were. They were more than just handler and hunter...they were buddies. We are not sure what happened to him. He had a cist on his side full of infection. The vet put him under about a week ago and opened it up and then put him on antibiotics. He had gotten better, started eating again and acting normal until the weekend. He just quit eating again and started dragging around. Cody's wife went to get him and take him to the vet this afternoon but he was already dead. He was a pleasure to have around and we were proud to have him in our kennel.

Very sorry to hear about Festus! He was a real nice hound. Especially before he injured his back. I remember the time Dream and him were still opens at Monticello,KY in the finals and those two dogs put on a show. I'll never forget that cast. Dream ended up winning but man that was I call real running. At one time they come around the other side of the hill there were three rabbits running the same trail! he will be missed but know this at least he's in a better place and running rabbits in the big briar patch in the sky.

Festus will dearly be missed. So very much. I hate it for Cody. We were only able to get one litter of pups off him, but we are thankful for that. Its hard to let go whenever you get so attached to them. People say they are just dogs, but when you spend any free time you have trudging through the briars just to hear that squall of a jump and fight hundreds of ticks a year for a rabbit race,...its more than that. Its a love for the sport and for the dogs. Festus was one of those dogs that not just anybody could hunt. Like me for example. He would hunt, but just wasnt the same. For Cody though, he would give all..and they were a team...Dont know why a dog has to get sick and die at only 4 years old, but the time he was here will be cherished. Fairwell to a friend.
