Last Saturday, My neighbor Jon Humble and I went to an AKC LP Hunt in Amite City La which was held on the properties of Mr. Mel Faust. Being the hard nose rabbit hunters that we are, we had no idea what a good time we were in for. I traded in my 12 gage for my camera and had a blast.

It was quite cool and we quickly got acquainted with the folks standing close to the fire. Jon and I had come to see some Satsuma Hounds in action and to meet Mr. Mel Faust.

The competitors lined up to get their hounds measured.

Here we see the man himsef, Mr Faust getting numbers placed on one of his fine satsuma hounds.

This is a shot of the 15 inch females on their way to one of the two 100 acre running pens located on this property.

The gallery of observers hang back while the judges run with the pack. Everyone remains focused on the action.

From time to time Mel would ride by on his Satsuma Horse. (Not really a Satsuma, but about the same color) He used this fine horse to check on the jugges of both the 13 inch and 15 inch females. He would bring them some Gator Aid and then ride away.

More than 20 hounds are sent out on the first cast. After they have ran for over 2 hours, some hounds are picked up and the others are left out to compete with the winner's pack. After another 2 hours or so, a Judge will call out "Field Trial" and the event is over.

Time to call out the winners.

As we can see, Mel's 13 inch female took second place.
This was the first of a two day event and I think a good time was had by all......
