I dont have a dog in the fight but i also run on the edge of 15 , I see people try to measure them out constanly , people forget we try and make them stand when it should be measured from a hunt pose , not a show pose . Head down , not posed up they will stand taller . Just a thought from the other side looking in
Old school Northway . Full Throttle no Bottle.
size
rules are rules, couldn't agree more with that statement. Its's been proven on more than one occasion that the same dog will measure differently when measured by different people, just the same as when some judges count to fifteen for a check, rarely is it an exact 15 seconds. I would even venture to say that if they all used stopwatches the start and stop would be quite differnt from one judge to another. It's the human element that is the constant in these equations. As long as the individual judges perform their respective tasks consistantly then that is all I could ask of them. Their consistancy to me is what makes them as fair as it can be. When they become inconsistant in their practices is when it makes it unfair for all. If you want to trial dogs be ready to work with the different judges as they will all do things just a little different than the next one. If your looking for perfection look elsewhere if you're looking for a good time and want to meet and make some good friends that can last a lifetime then that can be found at trials and running hounds. To nit-pick about any part of the whole is like finding a misplaced brush stroke on the mona lisa. I'm done ranting thanks Dave

i agree with you. ive never had a bad time at a trial. ive left having felt cheated but i look at what a judge puts himself thru to do the best job he could do. ive never had a dog measured dont know that i ever will. i know people that know their dog is 16" and they still bring them thats what upsets me. if you know your dog is big(over 15") leave him home.

The standard should be 16" anyway.
IF a dog is to big, have him measured. If you don't and he beats you and you keep quiet there, then keep quiet here.

Rules on size
Fellow beaglers,,,,
First off I don't have a problem with size or rules,My concern is breeding do we start breeding the runt's out of a litter "or" the biggest stroungest pups,,that best represents the hunting beagle,if you have a runt or a pick pup with equal ability, which will you breed, I think the stroungest pups will be healthier and reproduce better, down the road. I think this has been going on for quit some time, one reason the hounds are bigger.if you have a 151/2in hound that is outstanding and a can contribute to the breed. What will you do cull it and keep it's runt brother, to,, breed,, to most of the top lines across the country, have a big hound crop out along and they do good.I know very well that" some" push the line, trying to get an advantage.I really don't think it helps much.I hope that we all will keep our eye on the hounds and not the handlers.once again I believe in the rules,,,,,,,but size in the breed is becomming a problem,,,,,

I dont have a problem with the 15 inch rule.Having said that, If it bothered me to death about a dog being over, I would have it measured, not cry about it on the Internet and bash a orginization. I dont understand how it is ARHA's fault a dog is over when the person complaining doesnt have the guts to have it measured.
Very simple if a dog you are casted with looks over have it measured. If you dont have the guts to do that go cry to your momma dont cry on the Internet.

Mike,
Maybe, Just maybe you've missed the point. I don't think, but then again I may be wrong, this thread is about the ARHA, it's about big dogs in general. They exist in the UKC, ARHA and the AKC. When you run the little bitch class (13") in the AKC, as I do, and your 12 1/4" bitch gets beat buy a 14 1/2" bitch, it's a problem and it's wrong. That 14 1/2 bitch should be running in the 15" class, period. She'll be bigger then most of the 15" bitches entered. Now you are correct, in ARHA if you don't have the nads to have a dog measured, don't complain here! When I run my 12 1/4" bitch in ARHA and UKC I expect to run against dogs up to 3" taller then mine, but should I have to run again 16"+ hounds. No! JMHO
