Have fought with AKC for over 3 years trying to get field breeders more recognition on the "breeder referral" section. Hit a glass wall EVERY TIME. VP Speck finally email me and said it was no use. :loser: But when you have to cut or spay your hounds, of any type, or pay a $150.00 yearly tax on them-don't blame AKC. I am sure the dog food/anti's will be looked into.
I have got two emails from the AKC Legislative alert in the past two days. One about Texas, Virginia, & Oklahoma. They are on the ball about this stuff!
Yep I gripe about them and have a right to as I have used them nearly 30 years now. Still the best in the business. Just my opinion...
The Brace trial thing? Whats wrong, do they scare you? At least they are looking at the "same" hound. That is more than I can say for the gundoggers!! :( Yes, thier hounds are junk, But I don't ever see them getting on any site and fighting it out on one thread for 6 weeks...

I wonder what is to do about the Eukanuba sponsored AKC Nationals and their now chosen backing of antihunting. Will AKC throw them out, or continue to straddle the fence.

Akc is a registry, they care little what you do to keep your hunting hounds hunting. They are for the record only and it's become quite a tidy business of collecting fees...

Have to disagree about the open registries, there is no reason to lie or swap papers in them and they are beagle specific...Patch

actually it would be easy to just register any old dog and say it was out of some field champ. now that would be easy. all you need is a couple pics and a good check. but im sure its just as easy to get akc papers if a guy wants to.

I AGREE THAT I WOULDNT BE ABLE TO SALE ANY DOGS OR PUPS WITHOUT THEM BEING AKC REGISTERED. I DONT SEE HOW FOLKS SALE THEM THE WAY IT IS, NOT THAT GRADE DOGS ARE BAD CAUSE PAPERS DONT RUN THE RABBIT BUT IT SEEMS IF YOU SAY OR ADVERTISE THAT YOU HAVE PUPS OR A DOG FOR SALE THE NEXT QUESTION I USUALLY GET IS, IS IT AKC REG.? OH WELL TO EACH THERE OWN. TO BE HONEST I HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE AKC AS FAR AS SERVICE OR SPEED. SO NO COMPLAINT THERE. IN FACT I EMAILED THEM ON A PAPER I GOT THAT HAD THE DOGS NAMED SPELLED WRONG, WITHIN A WEEK I HAD A NEW PAPER WITH THE RIGHT SPELLING. I ALSO SEND MONEY ORDERS TO THEM WHEN I REGISTER TO SPEED THINGS UP A BIT. I DID RECIEVE MY CERTIFIED DNA PAPER ON MY OLD MALE. REAL FANCY CERTIFICATE FROM A LAB IN CALIFORNIA WITH A GOLD AKC SYMBOL ON IT AND ALOT OF COLORS AND LETTERS THAT I DONT UNDERSTAND. A PRETTY PAPER FOR 40 BUCKS. I MAY FRAME IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can do is trust my pedigrees that I have and nothing more. From here on out, I'll know what dogs are in them.

Anyone that needs AKC papers can do so in Collinsville, Al or Ripley, Ms is they still have their trade day. No, they don't have them laying out there to buy but the papers are there if you want them.

I agree with Patch, what does AKC do for hunting dogs? For hunters rights? I've seen very little! They seem to cater to the lap dogs and show stuff more than anything. For one, if they cared about hunting dogs, they would start putting a different title on the dogs finishing in different formats, such as UBGF FC or Brace FC, that way a newbie would not buy a brace hound expecting a hunting dog!

And I also agree about the chances of having more "suspicious" paperwork in AKC than I do in the open registries...why would someone want to falsify papers in an open registry when they can single register? No so with AKC!

However, they do have the best lineage system going...

Darring why would you think just because it's an open registery someone wouldn't switch papers? Let say you had a nice grade gyp but had access to a nicely breed registered female with a nice pedigree to go along with those set of papers BOOM that grade gyp just became a nicely breed registered female. Anyone who is not happy with AKC can always switch to a different registery but I bet most won't. It's a money thing meaning AKC dogs bring in the most money when you go to sell a dog or pups. Cooper,
You just described how to make a grade bitch that can't be AKC registered, into one(the only way).
If the fellow has a good little grade bitch he wishes to trial, he can single register with the open (and not have to lie) and any integrity he may have is left intact. We have found, those that will cheat and lie, will do so regardless...Patch

who won the last arha world hunt? cause if i wanted to and was dishonest, it would be real simple to single register a dog of mine as being a direct female out of the world champ. cost $15 and a stamp. thats just as easy as finding fake akc papers. dishonest people will always find a way. ultimately thats why i would support a mandatory dna program. if akc would take it easy on the price, i think that it would be a good thing. it would also help discourage some of the "fly by nite" breeders just in it for a quick profit.

But wouldn't a single registered dog say out of the winner of the "last ARHA world hunt " be kinda fishy to you? It would me but now if you had a dog that had a nice pedigree and the papers were dated way before It's sire or Dam won a big event wouldn't you think less of the papers being false?

Don't get me wrong, I think AKC is the best show in town but I DO think there is a LOT of room for improvement. We beaglers are such a tiny percentage of their customer base and so demanding with our field trials that AKC is probably pulling their hair out over us. As a group we attempt to better our breed, but because we are looking for so much more in performance dogs than say, bench show people, we demand more, yet pay less than other groups. I think we need our own specialized registry, based on AKC registrations that will police our own trials and have the best interest of the breed in mind rather than the amount of profit collected at the end of the year.
