make your own frontline plus

Post by madcatter »

active ingredients in frontline is fipronil-(9.8%) and methroprene
it has been tested on beagle puppies
http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/foia/revi ... 21-151.pdf

i make my own-this stuff is 9.1%fipronil and is a 20 ounce bottle for a little more than 1 purchase of frontline plus
http://www.pestproductsonline.com/produ ... -14-0.html
but this is only the fipronil so you need to add the plus-this is 7 times weaker but does the job
cheap also
http://www.pestproductsonline.com/produ ... 7-272.html

there you have it-- homemade---draw 1/2cc of methroprene and 1 cc of termidor (20lb dog)and it works the same.at least on my dogs this season,i will never go without it again
for those that dont read the article about the testing,they tested 4 puppies at 5 times the recommended dose and port thier results.

research yourself the ingredients and see the testing results before you try here
http://usasearch.gov/search?input-form= ... il&x=0&y=0
http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/about/types.htm
http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/default.htm

save some money
for those that like tree and shrub or k9 advantage(imacloprid)this stuff is 2 times stronger so i would cut dose in half(1/2cc per 20 lb)
http://www.pestproductsonline.com/produ ... 45-15.html

products like bio-spot are most permethrin in concentrations of 15-45% and you get under a ounce for 12-18 bucks,well here is 37% concentrate for a quart bottle for 50 bucks

How did you figure out the amount that you use? I am not the greatest at math but looking at the product and the ingredients in Frontline plus I would think you would have to use more than a 1/2cc of methroprene, since it is 7x weaker. I would think you would use about 1/2cc of the termidor since the dosage for Frontline plus is 0.67 up to a 22lb. dog. Thanks for the info.

good info, you can also make BIOSPOT by buying celebration active ingredient permerthin same % as biospot that come with 6 tubes for $12 @TSC .Each tube has 10 cc and does a 1200lb horse.There are 6 tubes each tube would do about thirty dogs x 6 180 dogs- cheap!!. Used for about 4 years no prbs.I squeeze about a third of a cc into a syringe just add the IGR you saw posted same results.I don't think Frontline gets ticks?

merthroprene stays in the dogs fats cells much longer than fipronil,and useing more than needed isnt necessary.a dosage of just 3%is effective for 26 days while a dosage of 8% is effective for just 28 days,why give 2 1/2 times more for just 2 days coverage?
search the sites i gave as research sites and you will see,dose rateings and testing results
just type in methroprene

this is from frontlines site-----
How this product should be used:
Use Frontline Plus for Dogs (fipronil 9.8% and S-methoprene 8.8%) on dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older. Frontline Plus for Dogs is available as 0.67 ml applicators for use on dogs and puppies up to 22 lbs, 1.34 ml applicators for dogs 23-44 lbs, 2.68 ml applicators for dogs 45-88 lbs and 4.02 ml applicators for dogs 89-132 lbs. Wait 24 hours to fully dry before swimming or bathing. Do not reapply for 30 days.

so according to thier info a 88lb dog gets just as much as a dog almost half its weight--45-88 get same amount
mmmmm
sounds like they are wasting some or giveing the dog extra,if its extra then why dont it last twice as long....
answer=it metabolizes,so if you give extra you are just wasting it

When a certain chemical loses its efficacy, the term chemical half-life is used by chemists to define the point in which that chemical compound breaks down.This chemical half life is of course different for each compound but also can be affected by such things as temperature,moisture, and in some cases sun light When we experiment with these compounds, we have to know the margin in safety error or be absolute in our calculations to prevent injury or death to an animal.I do alot of my own home remedies myself as I have a good math back ground.If you do not have that ability, ask someone who does to come up with a formula.Some Vets want the sales and office visit money, but some might help.Some chemicals when mixed can be incompatible and could lead to changing the very chemical nature of a product and either won't work or could be dangerous .Obviously the IGR does mix as it is seen combined in BIOSPOT and FRONTLINE PLUS, but could be applied seperate if chosen to do so.I have a BS/MS NC State grad.When not sure ask,don't take risky chances.Always wear gloves to avoid contact as some pesticides can have oncogenic effects (cancer risks) or cause nerve injury.

Ratio & Proportion: Oldest method used in calculating dosage. D- desired dose H-what you have V-Vehicle (how much liquid) liquid

Known Desired
H : V :: D : X
Means
Extremes

Left side are known quantities
Right side is desired dose and amount to give

Multiply the means and the extremes

HX = DV

X = DV
H

dave-i would check if there is a use by date on the pack before i would use.
i think most products are to much anyway,they have testing results where they gave 5 times the recommended doses and not much at all showed up bad,i also think that when i used bayer tree and shrub,which is like 6 times weaker than k9 advantage,i used the same icc per 20lb dog and had good results.
even the frontline package has the dose the same amout for a dog from 22-44lbs.that tells me that its pretty safe to mess up,a dog half as big as another gets the same amount????go figure

i been useing it and will continue,jus 1 male i have has a very short coat and he may get itchy for a day or 2 after i put it on.lasts a day or so,but its not due to the termidor cause the same thing happened with the store bought labeled stuff,just sensitive to it
