According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the United States is the "only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage" (i.e. some kind of insurance).[20][21] The same Institute of Medicine report notes that "Lack of health insurance causes roughly 18,000 unnecessary deaths every year in the United States." [20] while a 2009 Harvard study published in the American Journal of Public Health found a much higher figure of more than 44,800 excess deaths annually in the United States due to Americans lacking health insurance.[22][23] More broadly, the total number of people in the United States, whether insured or uninsured, who die because of lack of medical care was estimated in a 1997 analysis to be nearly 100,000 per year.[24]--

The reason Hospitals have over charged is dead beats not paying their bills.Hospitals have to pay bills also.If Health Care Reform is made into law wait and see how many doctors hang it up.

Is anyone really paying attention, lets talk about something I don't hear anybody really discussing. The real reason health plans have had a pre-existing condition clause. It works kinda like social security, the workers pay in so the elderly or retired can get benefits. The younger, healthier carry insurance in case something happens and the premiums they pay in along with the less healthy builds capital for the insurance companies to take care of the more needy, less healthy.

Now lets consider what may happen without the pre-existing clause. First the fines for not carrying insurance are going to be less than insurance, so not only could the young but companies could also just opt to pay the fines and force millions of currently covered people to get their own health coverage. Second you and I probably only pay 20 to 30% of our company health plan, if insurance costs dropped 50%, we would still be paying 20 to 30% more than we pay today to carry our own policy. Also with no pre-existing clause someone could go in for checkup and find out they have cancer can just go get insurance, they haven't been paying in, only the fines and they can't be refused. How long do think the insurance companies are going to last.

If everyone opts to pay the fines, that leaves the taxpayers to cover what the insurance companies are covering now, because they will be out of buisness.

First the government has NO money to buy hospitals, so you would have the government take more of the taxpayers money and use it to control their healthcare with, boy they have a great track record running the current government programs. There is surely NO waste or abuse or fraud going on in those programs. Second unemployment is not high enough for you so you want put the millions in the insurance buisness out of work too. When you kill the private sector the money being used to pay bonuses won't be generated it will be evaporated by the government.
