I've often wondered why so many are so quick to give the stud dog all the credit for the results of the litter, good or bad. The bitch bred to the stud is every bit as important, maybe even more so. The man who owns a top quality bitch in the field and in the whelping box has every bit as much a jewel as the man who owns a top stud.

The prefix FC in front of any dogs name by no means indicates they are any better dog in the field than the fella who has a powerhouse gundog on the end of a chain or in a pen in his back yard. There are some very, very good gun dogs that never have and never will step foot in a trial. So what you're interpreting as hurt feelings may simply be people who fully understand and prize the worth of a consistent day to day gun dog that brings its game to the gun.........or for some the video camera.

If you want to breed and you've got the itch----just remember it starts with the bitch.

I totally agree with you . I bought Elvis just for my back yard breeding . Not to make money and really don't care if anybody breeds to him .And don't even charge if they have a nice bitch to breed . 70% comes from the bitch in most breedings .I have only ran in one trial in my life. As I don't mix good with politics . And my ole lady reminded me of that so we didn't go to the trial . Take Care

Usually by the time a stud has Field Champions on the ground its too old to be breeding. I have no interest in breeding to a 9+ year old dog. I know this will touch a nerve with stud owners but so be it. Scientist have proven genetic birth defects from old parents both male and female in humans greatly increase odds. I chose to believe the same scientific principles apply to dogs.

Might be some truth to that .. But I have 7 healthy pups off ELVIS x HUNT-EM-UP Blazer's Margret ....there both almost 9years old . Is the 1st time ever breeding a female that old . But everything looks good so far. And will skip one heat cycle and breed her again .
