not a total success. found ticks on them around their hips a few weeks ago... not sure why others say they work great for them.

Never used anything that didn't weaken after 3 weeks. All the dead ticks have fallen off mine now and are ready to go back out with a fresh dipping. From what I've seen Paramite keeps them off for about a week, then they start attaching but die. At 3 weeks I bring them in to clean up and reapply, then they're ready to go again.
I guess it's like anything, when you see it failing it time to reapply a new dose.

Tell me more about the cattle tags you use.
I'm sure you heard the discussion that Jimmy Abshire and I had about the Python purple cattle tags he uses.
I just can't help but be leery about using them. A cattle tag is meant for a 1,000 lb. or bigger cow. Jimmy said he cuts them in quarters for his beagles -- that still would = 300 lbs. or more on a 25 lb. beagle. And Jimmy did say he's had dogs have reactions from them -- digging furiously at their ears.
I know lots of guys use them and claim no issues but????

I also knew an old man in Ga. that I coon hunted with several times used to use Spot On [ cattle insecticide ] on his hounds. Applied it topically between their shoulder blades and at base of tail. Kept the fleas and ticks off but he also had several dogs develop cancerous skin lesions on their backs after years of using it.
I'm all for finding cheaper effective ways to treat my hounds but don't want to cause them harm either.

What's chip getting for them and how long are they effective?
Thanks for your response.

I use the purple Python cattle tags. The Orange were worthless.
I fold the tag around the collar. Then I attach it with a staple gun with 1/2" staples. I hold the collar with tag on a soft wooden block then staple. It drives the staple through the tag, the collar, then through the tag again and into the soft wood. I pull it off and use needle nosed pliers to turn the staple tips back into the collar. Then I place the collar on a hard surface and lightly tap with a hammer to insure the staple ends are buried in the collar.
I haven't lost one in over five years and haven't had a tick problem since I started using them .

I use the Purple Pythons also. I use the tool that is made for them and just fold them over and it punches like a rivet through the tag, then slide them on the collar. I don't know how long they will last but I change them after about three months. They work well. I know guys that have been using them for a long time. I also know a guy who had pups in together and they chewed the tags off of each other and ate them with no problems.
