Unfortunately, AKC changed the rules around a year ago. Now they have to be DNA profiled and a certified 3 generation pedigree procured. I had around a couple hundred dollars registering my two Branko dogs to AKC. I am just glad that AKC honored CKC.
Trust me, that is the way it is now.
But, if your Branko dog's parents were both CKC and AKC registered already then you'd be OK to register them AKC without the DNA profile, etc.

don't get me wrong, buying a pure branko dog is a very good mood, look at the pedigree of the dogs winning these days, most all go back to branko, like a buddy of mine said, might as well go to the horses head, all i am saying is you can get 100% branko bred dogs without going through canada to do it.

I THINK WHAT MOST PEOPLE ARE SAYING IS IF MR KRYPAN IS NOT THE BREEDER ON THE PAPERS IT IS NOT BRANKO BRED.J.M.O. IT CAN BE BRANKO BLOOD LINE BUT WILL NOT BE BRANKO BRED UNLESS HE PICKED THE SIRE AND DAM.THUS HE IS THE BREEDER.FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND MAKES IT WORTH MORE TO THE PERSON BUYING IT.J.M.O.

The reason I bought direct from Branko's Kennel is because of the thought that goes behind their breeding program. A lot of guys on here advertise Branko dogs for sale but unless Branko or Freida bred them they ain't Branko dogs. When I bought my two dogs from Frieda I let her know my intentions on line breeding and told I wanted a male and female and trusted her kennel knowledge to choose two that would be winners and good for breeding. She did well and I am fully satisfied.
I agree with that statement. When I read "Branko bred" in the advertisements I have to think twice, is it a hound from Brankos that is for sale or is it the line of Branko hounds for sale. JMO

FYI ~ I did register my male AKC as well (dual registered) in August, 2006 and since he's Canadian born with a tattoo, that was sufficient for AKC as well as I generated the pedigree. Just paid whatever fee and sent the two pictures in. AKC does fast paperwork too, I was impressed with how fast it was processed.

hare hawk i have 6 branko dogs, not from dogs bought from them but bred by branko. brankos cruise control is by heliprop and bonnie betsy. brankos lumbering jack is by lumberjack and angel eyes 2yrs. branko and armondos zydeko by pied piper and armondos hope 5yrs. brankos eskimo joe by lumberjack and sassy suzie 2yrs. brankos peggy lee by baba cowboy and poetry in motion 4yrs and a young bitch by tuffy. i am very satisfied with my dogs and would not hesitate to by another one. each running dog i bought was EXACTLY as i was told. the young dogs turned out as i was told. i see a lot of so called branko dogs as they are called with some of this blood in the second and third generation. these are not branko bred unless he breeds them. if anybody wants to see real branko dogs run call me. this is not a challenge i got past that crap 30 yrs ago, this is just an offer to help. sam lebeau 304-522-4325

i dont have one of her but ill try to you one. she is about 14 ans a half wide deep chest good feet and legs and can run all day. she gets her share of the front but has verry good line control and uses her mouth very well. sounds like someone is killing her when she runs with a loud screaming ball and chop. she is open spotted and lots of black and brown ticks with a blue tint when she is wet. sam

Thanks to all of you for the replies and information. I know that there are alot of good beagles out there. I'm looking for a hard hitting dog that will help me run the wheels of the local rabbit population. I had beagles growing up as a kid but I'm realizing now that these dogs although great companions had many flaws. I've had the opportunity to hunt with some good dogs and want to give myself the best chances of ending up with a quality animal.

I live in North Central Wisconsin and am considering purchasing a pup from Branko in the spring of 2008 when I get back from a military deployment. This dog will be running both hare and cottontail. I've done a fair amount of research on Brankos dogs but I'd like to hear it from the people that are running these dogs. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks in advance.

i don't have a dog that came directly from branko, but got 3 pups (14 months) that are out of a bitch that came directly from them. all three of my dogs are better than average.

Jane,
You are lucky then because I had to pay for a CKC certified pedigree (3 generation), DNA profiling, and normal registration fees. Here is a link to AKC policy on foreign born dogs that are not AKC registered:

http://www.akc.org/rules/special_registry_services.cfm

Special Registry Services

--Scroll down for a list of acceptable foreign registries.--

I. IMPORTED DOGS

A. Eligibility

Dogs imported into the U.S. may be eligible for registration in the AKC Stud Book, provided:

1. The imported dog is of a breed eligible for individual registration in the AKC Stud Book.

2. The dog is physically in the United States even if the owner is a foreign resident.

3. The imported dog was registered in country of birth with a Foreign Registry Organization listed in Section IV of this pamphlet.

4. The AKC application form is accompanied by the complete official three-generation Pedigree and a legible photocopy of the certification from the Foreign Registry Organization. The dog must have an unrestricted registration.

5. The AKC application and the foreign registration must reflect identical ownership.

6. The dog has been positively and permanently identified (microchip or tattoo) prior to being registered.

NOTE: At the AKC Board Meeting held on May 12, 1997, the Board of Directors voted (unanimously) "to permit the registration of imported dogs with AKC registered sires and dams. This would be considered where there was no acceptable registry in the dog's country of birth, when the dog was physically in the United States, and after the sire, dam and all dogs in the litter had been DNA tested."

B. Litters

A litter whelped outside of the United States is not eligible for AKC registration, but individual dogs from such a litter may become eligible if imported into the U.S. and,

1. The dog is individually registered with a Foreign Registry Organization listed in Section IV of this pamphlet prior to being imported.

2. The requirements outlined in Section IA of this pamphlet are met.

3. If whelped in a country with no Foreign Registry Organization on the list in Section IV of this pamphlet, but both the sire and dam are AKC registered, if the owner requests and receives permission to have Sire, Dam and entire litter DNA tested prior to importing the dog, that dog may be considered for AKC registration.

C. Bitches Imported in Whelp

A litter whelped in the U.S. by reason of a mating that took place outside the U.S. between an AKC registered or registrable Dam and a non-AKC registered Sire may be registered if the Sire meets the registration requirements outlined in Section A and the completed Special Litter Registration Application (ALITTS) is accompanied by:

1. A legible copy of the official three-generation Pedigree for the Sire issued by the Foreign Registry in sire's country of birth.

2. The Stud Certificate issued by the registry organization in whose Stud Book the Sire is registered, or an official letter from that registry organization, must verify, with its official Club Seal and authorized signature, that the person signing as owner of the Sire was, in fact, the recorded owner of the dog at the time of the mating and that the foreign Sire was mated to the bitch named on the AKC Litter Registration Application Form.

The individual AKC registration of the Dam, imported in whelp, must be effected before consideration will be given to an application for litter registration (see page 3).

D. AKC Bitch Bred to a Non-AKC Dog in the United States

A litter produced by an AKC registered Dam and a non-AKC registered Sire as the result of a breeding in the United States may only be registered when the Sire becomes registered with the AKC.

E. Artificial Insemination Using Fresh Extended or Frozen Semen

A litter produced as a result of artificial insemination using imported frozen or fresh extended semen will be considered for AKC registration if the Sire meets the same requirements for AKC registration as stated in Section I, and is DNA certified as follows, Effective October 1, 1998, AKC "DNA Certification" is required for all stud dogs, domestic and foreign, collected for fresh extended and frozen semen use. Cheek swab DNA samples must be obtained by the collector and submitted to the AKC with the Notification of Collection. An "AKC DNA Certificate" with the DNA Profile and Number is issued to the owner.

F. Import DNA Requirement

All imported dogs (male or female) registered on or after March 1, 2006 require AKC DNA profiling prior to the registration of their first AKC-registered litter.

II. DOGS OWNED BY RESIDENTS OF BERMUDA, CANADA AND MEXICO

All requirements outlined under Section I of this pamphlet would apply except the dog need not be physically in the U.S. at the time of registration. A Canadian dog must have an unrestricted registration with the Canadian Kennel Club. A transfer of ownership on the AKC's records will only be effected after it is documented that the same change has been made by the registry organization in the owner's country of residence.

NOTE: An application to register a Bermudian-bred, BKCregistered dog, a Canadian-bred, CKC-registered dog need not be accompanied by the three-generation BKC, CKC Pedigree provided both the Sire and Dam are individually AKC registered, but the CKC certificate and pictures are still required. AKC registration numbers for the Sire and Dam must appear on the completed application form

.

III. DOGS WHELPED IN THE UNITED STATES WHEN NEITHER THE SIRE NOR THE DAM ARE AKC REGISTERED

A dog whelped in the United States that is individually registered with one of the Domestic Registry Organizations listed in Section V of this pamphlet may be eligible for registration. A three-generation certified Pedigree issued by the domestic registry organization must accompany the application for AKC registration.

NOTE: If the Sire and Dam of the dog, for which registration is sought are registered with the AKC, the dog is not eligible for registration in the AKC's Stud Book on the basis of its registration with another USA registry body. Standard AKC registration procedures must be followed.

I think this is where I fell into place. I have another hound as well that I will dual register as his parents are dual.
The pup I just bought in the US should be eligible for both too.

I have a male directly out of IFC Branko's Big Sam and Branko's Blue Alibies. He got some age on him now but when he was younger he was fast. He is a 15". I have a Grandpup of his that is Double Branko's White Blizzard, Double Kingwood and a touch of Proper Baron. He is 13' and can fly. I like the Branko's Bloodlines.

There are a lot of good, faster dogs in your area, (in a lot of areas) but you asked about Branko bloodlines so I will give you my general experience having owned quite a few from the bloodline (never bought directly).

There were always exceptions, like any other line, but for the most part I have found them to be intelligent and sweet-natured, easy to kennel, plenty of desire and foot, and when crossed with cottontail lines, seem to be able to pass along their good traits. Some have had to be broken on deer - some very difficult, but surprisingly, I've had some that never touched one from the day it was born. Pearlie is a granddaughter of Jack Of All Trades on top and Armando's Northern Tracker on bottom, and she's never needed correction, never showed any interest in anything but rabbit.

I can understand why some prefer to buy directly from the Krpans. They know their own dogs and make their breeding choices after much thought and past experience. This will probably chafe a few people, but we tend to line and inbreed the Branko bloodline too heavily once it gets in the States in an attempt to lock it in or get more "Branko" in it. This is something the Krpans don't do. From my conversations with Frieda and Branko, they don't believe in always doubling up certain dogs - even if they did come from their kennel. They don't breed real tight, rather, they match for complimentary traits in their kennel and breed that way. Check some of their dogs' pedigrees - you won't find 9 crosses of a dog in the closer generations, lol. Go back as far as you want. You won't see where they ever did that. Just an observation...;)
