Rumors and gossip never put a red cent in my pocket, nor did it put food on my table, therefore I don't waste my time on it.
I didn't start trialing until late 90's so I never got to see Blueback himself run, but my dogs got spanked by many a direct son or daughter of him. To my memory, the Spicer's were super people and always had good dogs. They were very successful at the trials, but you didn't see them at any trials during gun season because their dogs were busy putting rabbits in the stew pot.

Before you post something even as a rumor you should have it straight. I know both Bert and Scotty Spicer well and have talked to them about Blue Back many times, the bottom line is that if papers were put on him they were there before they got him. So be careful of accusing them of getting Blue Back from the pound or putting papers on him because they bought him from a person. I will leave his name out of it since I don't know him personally. Whether anyone likes it or not, he is and will forever be registered AKC because he is dead and gone and I doubt anyone is going to pay to have him exhumed and his parents on paper exhumed to see if the DNA matches and that is the only way to prove that the papers are wrong. If papers were put on him, it wasn't right, but he wasn't the first and he darn sure will not be the last. I have two who go back to him and they showed me their papers last night and they both say AKC so until someone gets those shovels or back hoes and the doctors from CSI miami or Cold Case all blue back bred dog owners should continue to hold onto their papers and feel safe. Lmao
Black and Tans, Blue Ticks, and a few others bringing smoke
Hey Dan Brink, its too bad you posted this when you did, since I live in Greenville, right outside your neck of the woods, I could have shown you a Blueback granddaughter bluetick that would have given you a good idea of what kind of hounds came from this line...my Misty was too fast for my pack and was by far the best looking bluetick I have ever owned. I have seen other Blueback blooded beagles run and they have all had the same things in common...good foot, good noses, brains and mostly good looks...hard to find something to complain about with those qualities. Maybe you have something better??? If so, I am close to you so lets see it run................

I love the mystery surrounding ole Spicer's Blueback.
I have talked to several reputable beaglers who have talked directly with the owner of Blueback and the rumors are BS but I love a mystery and drama. LMAO
At the end of the day in all my years of owning beagles the Blueback X Branko crossed 7 month old pup I own is the smartest, quickest started, fastest, loyal, built like a star athlete dog I have ever owned. He is awesome. I couldn't be prouder of owning him and thank Joe Diebold and Rick Yager for making the cross.
btw, this topic has been beat to death and is almost becoming laughable.

I have seen a few of these pups for sale, out of this cross. It seems that most of them are lacking foot. The mother of these pups was pretty slow. I dont think it was a good cross, but as far as I'm concerned, on paper it sure looked good. When someone judges a whole line of dogs from one breeding, or a single dog, I dont think they know much about dogs. I would love to run my blueback dogs with this guys dogs. I would charge him extra to breed to a blueback male! I have owned a few that I was not happy with. I have owned some of the other top lines in U.S., that were not very impressive too. Pick your poison.

JESSIES BLUE TURBO AND LNL OL RED ARE LITTERMATE BROTHERS OUT OF THIS CROSS,IF THEY LACK FOOT,THEN WHAT DOES THAT SAY FOR ALL THE DOGS THEY HAVE DEMOLISHED IN THE PAST?
RED HAS PLACED AT EVERY BIG FIVE HE HAD BEEN IN AND WON THE KY STATE AND JESSIE WON THE FIRST HUNT HE WAS EVER IN AND PLACED 2ND AT THE WORLD,HE FINISHED 3RD ANT THE OTHER HUNT HE WAS IN,THREE HUNTS AND A 1ST,2ND,AND 3RD...............YOU CALL THAT A BAD CROSS???????????
THE CROSS WAS DOME 2 1/2 YEARS AGO,AND IF THERE ARE ANY OUT THERE OUT OF IT,I WANNA KNOW WHERE THEY ARE,AND JESSIE SCROGHAM BROUGHT THE FEMALE UP HERE A WEEK OR SO AGO AND DONE THE CROSS AGAIN.
I THINK YOU HAVE MIXED THE CROSS UP WITH ANOTHER ONE,THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY PUPS FOR SALE OUT OF THIS CROSS,IF SO,I KNOW TWO GUYS FROM OHIO THAT WILL BUY THEM.
THERE HAS BEEN A FEW OUT OF REGGIE AND LINEMASTERS HOT PEPPER ON HERE LATELY,YES SHE WAS SLOW,BUT THE PUPS ARE VERY NICE.
MAYBE YOU SHOULD PICK YOUR POISON

I never saw him run, only a few dogs directly out of him.

When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Old School, Full Throttle ,No Bottle.
The dogs I have seen out of Blueback (2nd and 3rd generation) had very good foot.
The 2 year old dog I buried in May was out of Logan Elm Blue Rocky and AJ's Hunting Hiedi. Which makes him 3rd generation Blueback.
Hiedi was out of Odells Turnback Joe.
Joe was out of Blueback.
Joe is still a good dog at 10+ years old and has thrown some very good pups.
I never saw Blueback, but my Davis dog was a spittin image of Joe.
The only difference was that he had more blue tick. Build, manners, speed, big nose, honest mouth, and very smooth on the line. The bigger the running, the better.
Granted he was way down the line from Blueback, he still pulled most of his characteristics from that side. I would love to own another like him.
Very intelligent dog. His faults were he was too fast for my tastes and he didn't have a ton of hunt which is big on my list. He had decent hunt, but was never the dog to win a cast on hunt. He handled like a dream.

Zuk,
The most impressive quality of Blueback is the way he imprinted his offspring even 3 to 4 generations down the line. Actually, Spicer's Blueback is the Great Grandfather to my pup, followed by Coty's Blue Bogus then Diebold's Lil Dutchman. Granted the bottomside is old school Branko but from hunting with Dutch last season I am seeing a mirror image of his style. Pretty impressive stuff. It is like a dream come true and I had my doubts that this would happen but now am a believer in the Blueback and Blueback X old Branko crosses.
This pup hunts with extreme desire to catch the rabbit. He is still learning but I am confident he is going to be a lifetime type dog based on what I am witnessing. Hopefulling he will keep progressing and not blowup. I am keeping the pressure down on him. A lot solo work and 30 minute runs on week nights running twice on weeekdays for around 30 minutes each session. He gets a rabbit up withing 5 minutes everytime out (backyard woods).
I just started working this dog three weeks ago for the first time. I caught a live rabbit and let him kill it. After that, the rest is histroy.

blueback
i saw blueback and ran and trialed with bert and scott before he ever had a title. i beat him and he beat me, and ive beat his offsprind and ga\ot beat by some. i saw one stand and howl when the other dogs ran and ive seen some i would take home in a second. bert and scott are top gentlemen and sportsmen. im kina like jimmy, he is akc reg. to me also. it might suprise some of you people to know what is really in a lot of dogs now. an old man told me onetime papers are very important. you never know when you might need something to wipe on. lol. sam lebeau
