Preacher I agree with you as well. I know first hand a slower dog can and will pull dogs back. I had a dog I use to run in PP and he was really a slow medium dog. I seen days where scenting was tough he would pull dogs back, sometimes he would get minused but sometimes the dogs would pull back to him then go in a little different direction then they had already gone, by letting the slower dog get them back on the line, in which case most PP judges would minus the dogs who came back for over running the line. Now if they would pull back then run the identical same line forward to the point where they were pulled out of....my slow dog would get minused for pulling them out of check.

On the same hand there was days where the pack would get 100 yards or farther ahead of my slow dog and never care about his loud bawl mouth, my feeling is they were so locked on a hot scent you couldnt pry them from the check to come back.

Now some guys wouldnt tell this on themself but I aint too proud...I remember one time when I ran my slower dog in a LP trial because he was all I had, and Matt Glomski and Jesse Dunkin talked me into it....I had a blast but the honest truth is....the pack LAPPED my dog. Honestly.....they ran a couple of complete 1/2 mile coal country circles and just kept stretching away from my dog until the rabbit passed my dog and here came the pack. Them dogs never even noticed my dog barking. I had never laughed so hard in my life.

Thanks for bringing up these judging questions. I think it does everyone good to talk about what we see and our experiences. I know I sure love hearing the old timers who know rabbit dogs talk. A man can learn a lot by listening.

Best to you and take care,
Randy
