when to start a pup on heart worm med.?

Ant,

I can't believe that no one has ansered your question. I guess I will. Start your pup on heartworm preventative now and continue it year around. I use ivermectin. Read the dosage and cut it down to fit your dog. You can buy it from your vet or from a farm supply store. All dogs should be on preventative by the time they are 6 months old or following their first summer.

Heartworms are caused by mosquitoes so I only give heartworm treatment in the months where mosquitoes are present, IN NC this is from April to November. This has worked for me thus far but I don't know that it has been scientifically proven.

Gotta throw mine in I guess. I start them on Interceptor at 6 weeks. I give monthly all year 'round because it keeps them free of belly worms too - all except tapes.
