Hot Spots ?

I saw a dog with what is called a hot spot what are they ? & what are they from ? & how do you cure the dog of them ? can they spread to other dogs ? I do know this they look bad.

They usually start with scratching (caused by fleas) and then a fungus gets into the wound. They are EASY to cure with anything that will kill the fungus if you do not let them go too long. They are not contagious (to dogs with healthy skin anyhow). Keep the fleas off and feed a quality feed during the summer and you should not have too much trouble. If you see one starting, head it off before it gets bad. Clip the area so air can get to the spot if the hair has not already fallen out. Nustock, Blue Lotion Spray, a tea bag, or anything with tanic acid in it (and some say WD 40 but I have not tried it) applied once daily for about three days should do the trick! Good luck!
