As far as i know... they are all the Appalachian Cottontail.

Do a search on cottontail sub species, and you will find about a dozen varieties!!

good luck,

To answer your question, of all the cottontail species. The swamp rabbit would probably run the best. But a michigan buck cottontail in march is tough to beat!!

No, San Juans are a completely different specie than that of the cottontail. All tame rabbits derive from "the european rabbit" which is what overan Austrailia! San Juans are related to the European.

The Europeans are diggers, and they say San Juans also dig.

Cotton tails find old woodchuck holes etc. to hide in.

hope this helps, i was curious too and looked it up on google.

I have a rabbitry and have own both. I think the Smokie MT run the best
I have several of them and turn them out to have rabbits in my area to run to cut the drive time down and sale many in the area to people to train young dogs with.

I would like to try some new rabbit I still think the small tame rabbits run better the bigger rabbit seem to get worn out to fast. I breed these smokie Mt and try to keep the smallest to rebreed to tring to make them
fastrer. Try some or the Arkansas and let me know. I can get wild rabbits young and put them with some of the rabbit I have that are tame, but the can raise them to about 4 weeks and the wild takes back over and the sit with there face to a wall of the cage and quit eating???? I just take them out and turn them lose. I think I gave the last two I had to Ruffus
for his Pine Mt Running lot.
