whats the soonest you can take your female to the vet to see how many pup's she will have??

My vet told me the earliest to get a good pic is 54th day... Then they can count the pups...

for ultrasound they can see them as early as the 13th day. you can palpate at around 30 days and feel them.

What do vets charge for x raying pups to determine how many she will have???Can they tell if she will have trouble during whelping?

Every vet will charge a different amount for ultrasounds and/or X-rays.

Personally I wait until about day 56 to X-ray. Bitches can reabsorb pups between the time they do an ultrasound and the time they whelp so you really can't count on ultrasound numbers.

X-rays will tell you the number of puppies (they are almost 100% accurate) and the size of the heads to pelvis ratios but they cannot tell you if the bitch will be able to whelp without problems. That is ALWAYS a wait and see kind of situation. So many different things can go wrong.

Good whelping books are priceless while you are sitting out Stage 1 Labor (panting mildly & nesting but not pushing yet)....
