Valbazan as a wormer with Ivomec

Post by ibeagle2 »

Has anyone used Valbazan as a wormer? I heard that it works great with Ivomec as a wormer. It is suppose to get all the worms Ivomec can't! I think it is a cattle wormer. Any thoughts? I know Ivomec works great on heartworms but not so great on the others.

I used valbazen all last winter with good results. I mainly use it during hunting season because it gets tape worms also. I took two dogs to the vet while they were on valbazend and neither one had any kind of worms, so in my opinion it did the job. I use Ivomec as a heartworm treatment and so far so good. In the summer months I switch my deworming program to Safeguard and Ivomec.

Big Dog, This is a stupid question but why do you switch to Safeguard in the off season? Is the valbazen harded on the dog in the summer cause I use valbazen all year long with good results. Just curious.

I just switch up periodically that way my dogs aren't on any one preventative the entire year. Remember none of these were actually made for dogs.(Safeguard- horse wormer, Ivomec Cattler wormer, and Valbazen Swine wormer) There is no science behind why I change up, it just makes me feel a little better.(LOL) I don't use Ivomec from Nov thru March. I use Valbazen November thru March, and I use Safeguard and Ivomec April thru October. So far so good.

I have just started using valbazen. Can you advise me how you measure the doseage? I gave my beagles 1 and 1/2 cc for three days. Is this about right? I believe my buddy worms his coondogs with around 3 ccs'. Thanks. :)

I give 1 cc per 10 lbs of body weight for 3 days in a row. That seems to do the job.

Some worms can get immune to wormers. That is a real good reason to switch up. I have had it happen to me in my deer dogs.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me, maybe I'll start switching up too. Do you have your dogs checked for heartworms before you start giving Ivomec or start at a certain age or what.

Yes its always a good idea to get dogs heart worm tested. If you dont and they have them and you give them something for them you can kill them. I always start my dogs as soon as i get them by going to them vet for the first time then do all of the shots and wormers myself. My vet is real good about giving advice and talking to you about it. Always says if there is anything and dosage just ask is all.
