Need small truck with good gas mileage
30 miles per gallon in a Colorado? What model/engine? Are the 2-wheel drive extended cab Toyotas with 4 banger ( 2.7) and 5 speed any good. Got to go small size, big trucks are dinasauers, gone forever. Look at Europe.
I drive a buddys newer (2004?) F*rd Ranger 4 banger 1 wheel wonder to trials and on long trips and it gets 25 mpg avg. A WHOLE lot better than my lifted Silverado.

I have a 97 S-10 ZR2 4X4, on a good day it only gets 18.5 mpg, with a 4.3 V6, I bought an 06 extended cab silverado 4X4 and it gets between 17.5 to 18 mpg, so I just opted to get the bigger truck. Tons more room, and getting just as good mileage.

The Toyotas are great but check the bed and the FRAME for rust before you buy one.
My husband loves his Toyota trucks and has had several which he drives a good ten or more years before trading them in.

He is a Toyota man,
but I LOVE my Honda Van

I have an access cab 2006 Toyota Tacoma, 4wd, 4cyl 5 speed. Get 23 mpg around here and got 26 on a long trip. Better mileage than was rated on the sticker. Bed is made of heavy plastic and stuff slides around if you do not anchor it. Don't like the mirrors. Car mirrors on a truck. Ford Rangers are supposed to get the best gas mileage but I can't vouch for that. Toyota's hold their trade in value better so that may be something to look at also.
I have a 91 Toyota that I got new. 4x4 extra cab 22 Re 4 banger engine gets 24 mile to the gal It has 300,000 on the same engine, strill uses no oil. Has the same u-joints, header pipe and muffer, rear brakes and the front has never been lined up. Been a dandy. I changed oil every 2000 miles. Never allowed a drop a Penns oil to enter the motor.

diesel trucks the answer, why no mid size in US?
I was in Europe in Sept., plenty of Ford Ranger diesels over there. Plenty of other mid size ( mitsubishi) king cab models with diesel engines too. Why not here in the US? The gas Co.s are strangling the world and the auto industry is still trying to get us to commit, via their incetives, to huge trucks that require the same money as a college tuition to operate. Is anyone in the industry listening? How long can we afford to hunt or run dogs at $4.00 a gal? What to do?
