Indiana 2008 YOUTH RABBIT HUNTS

Post by Keystone Kid »

We need dog handler’s guys for the bellow event. You Hoosiers step up to the plate don’t be selfish with your time. It’s only one day!

INDIANA'S
2008 Youth Rabbit Hunt's

"Our future is in our children"
The “Indiana Beaglers Alliance” is Co-Sponsoring its 4th & 5th Youth Rabbit Hunt with Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area & Salamonie Reservoir

All participants “should” have attended and passed a Hunter Education Course & have a valid Indiana Youth Hunting Licensed to participate. If anyone is still is in need of taking a Hunter Education Course contact James Heasley ASAP.

Pre-Registration is needed; numbers are limited so the sooner you register the better. A youth can bring their own shotgun, or one will be provided. If we need to provide a shotgun we need to know at time of registration.

Each youth will have a “private mentor” that will supervise them during the hunt. Parents are encouraged to accompany the youth, but it’s not mandatory. The hunt is FREE; it just costs “seven dollars” for a Youth Hunting License. There will also be a FREE lunch following the hunt for all participants (youth, mentors, & dog handlers).

* I enjoy meeting new Beaglers & Squirrel Dog Owners. It's a blessing to find other's with such unique interests.
* I also enjoy helping future hunters.

The Salamonie Youth Rabbit Hunt is only 30 to 45 minutes north of Prairie Creek Beagle Club, 60 minutes east of Western Beagle Club, & 60 minutes north west of Grand Lake Beagle Club. As of July 20, 2008 four members of Prairie Creek Beagle Club have volunteered to assist with the hunt, no members from Western Beagle Club have volunteered, and no members from Grand Lake Beagle club have volunteered. As close as this youth hunt is to all these clubs location, all three of these clubs should have “at least” have 50% of their membership volunteering to help.

I don’t think some of you get it. You only get back what you put in! In the next 10 years or so if we don’t get more youth involved in our sport we won’t have a sport. Animal rights activists, and anti hunting organizations will convince politicians that there isn’t enough of the general public interested in these activities, “so why have them”. If this happens, I personally will be laughing my head off because, “I told you so”. I personally have other interests that I will be happy to “reactivate” if the anti’s get their way.

Most of us started out this sport rabbit hunting. Then we graduated into the field trial aspect of it. I personally don’t think I would have ever become that interested in the competition part of Beaglin if I wouldn’t have first hunted over beagles. Trialing just wouldn’t have made sense. I wouldn’t have seen any purpose in it if I hadn’t seen the ultimate goal. Working the hounds in cover to find/jump a rabbit, the communication & comradery with the dogs as well as other hunters, listening & watching the hounds on “hot pursuit” of a rabbit, anticipation as the rabbit gets closer, and as always a “head shot kill”. :)

Come on guys, we still need a lot of dog handlers. You can run your own pack or run with a buddy, but we do need you. You have plenty of time to work this date into your schedule.
