NC Hunters - how was your weekend?

Post by Kevin Dowell »

Just wodering how the running was for the rest of you guys that live in North Carolina, Southwest Va. It was zero when i went out to start the truck on Sat morning, and warmed up to maybe 20-22 for the high. Running was much better after lunch, but still not all that great, ground was froze hard as a rock. I think we jumped 5-6 and killed 2. Seems like you had to step on them to get the rabbits up. How did the rest of you guys and your dogs do this weekend?/

The more people I meet, the more I love my dogs!

HI Kevin

We didn't turn out until 10:30 A.M because of the cold weather.

We did end up with 7 or 8 rabbits. The running was hit and miss :( but the best running of the day was between 2:30-5:00 P.M.

I'm hoping for warmer temps. next Saturday.

It was great!!! I wasn't at work or laid up in the bed. The running wasn't all that great. We hunted from 8:30 to 1:00. We jumped 5 or 6 but only managed 1kill. Scenting was pretty bad and all the ice water didn't help out that much either. All in all we had a great time. :D
Run em hard and make no excuses!

When I left the house it was 1 degree with a heavy frost. We turned out at about 9:30. The dogs jumped one in about 15 minutes with out much trailing. They ran that one hit and miss for 90 minutes with several sightings but no shots. We jumped 5 total with less than average running. At times the running was good. The longer the race went on the tougher it seemed to get. I was pleasantly surprised that they could circle as good as they did with extremely low humidity and frozen turf. Some pups got some valuable experience and it beat sitting around the house.

All my partners chickened out, so I just run em by myself in the afternoon. Ran two for about an hour apiece. Track seemed to dry up fast, but they kept re-jumping them. I did find out the deer hunters on this tract of land killed two yotes and a bobcat so it was a good afternoon.
